Yeah, it's peculiar to be sure. One can approve of bringing charges and be critical of the women who fell for this. They aren't mutually exclusive but a few posters in here seem to think it's either-or.

Once I read about the underage shite I was good with the trafficking charges.
Before that I think the civil case was 'punishment' enough.
The people behind it are a special kind of shitty and their practices are indefensible.

The feds don't bring charges against you unless they know 100% beyond a reasonable doubt they have your arse nailed to the wall.

The FBI is involved b/c of the alleged sexual misconduct with underage girls. That is entirely separate from the content in the OP - and in fact I share your sentiment on that topic. fricking around with minors is a big time no-no, and something that could easily be proven. Feds likely have the goods on em for that.

It’s not an absolute certain, but federal prosecutors aren’t going to bring a high profile case like this without having done their due diligence on their witnesses and doing a lot of overall due diligence.
These dudes seem to be scum, and even though the girls aren’t the brightest, I’m not sure why people want to act like they have done something wrong here.

These guys are pieces of shite without a doubt. Don't particularly care what happens to them. But there is always some level of accountability on the victim's part and in this case, they agreed to get their booty stuffed to some level. Don't want to be put in a bad position, let's keep it off camera and ideally away from strangers.

The OP article was pretty shitty at explaining everything that occurred. There were a couple of key details that were omitted which change quite a bit:
1-The "reference girls" - After reading about that it's pretty easy to make the case of intent to deceive, reliance of the victim on the deception, and damages (aka fraud). IMO this is where they crossed the line of "should have known better".
2-The OP article mentioned sex trafficking, but entirely omitted anything about why that charge was brought, leaving the reader to assume it was basically an overreach. Turns out, there's a little more to it.

Oh get off your fricking high horse. They're grown adults and they're dumb for performing sex acts on camera thinking it would never get released out in the wild. There's been a couple of them that have come back for a second video. For instance the girl who wore the same outfit to her boyfriend's basic training graduation and her first vid on GDP. It's become a meme and she came back for a second vid claiming she's now single.
If women want to be considered equal to men then we need to stop coddling them like they're weak and dumb. Some of these women did this for a thrill and didn't think for a second of the consequences.

I don't think anyone believes these girls made intelligent decisions. Perhaps the difference in opinions comes down to whether or not you think it's moral to take advantage of someone else's stupidity. Everyone has their own moral standards and taking advantage of someone else's stupidity violates mine. I'm sure that's not true for everyone. I suspect that's why at least some people are okay with this.

According to numerous scientific studies, using a smart phone while driving is at least as dangerous as driving drunk, if not more so. Yet there are countless people (of all ages) who not only think it's perfectly fine, but actually do take their eyes off the road and play around on their phone while driving.
My point? Stupidity isn't rare. It's shockingly and dangerously common.

I don’t think anyone would argue these guys aren’t awful people. And I’m sure they are guilty of crimes and will be punished accordingly.
At the same time how can anyone believe these girls were really tricked? If so should we give them a pass for their ignorance? Do they really deserve our sympathy?
