Theory: they keep highway contractors constantly busy with smaller projects in the region so they maintain a competitive presence and local staff available for bigger projects.

I haven't spent much time in Orange other than passing through to get to Houston or one of the big LNG projects. Looks kind of depressing and "floody", sort of like LaPlace. The handful of people I know from the area are great folks though. Good, hard working folks.

If not for the constant construction (or at least construction barriers....I never seem to see very much work happening on the TX side)....the new Chick Fil A/Starbucks on Orange is a solid place to stop on the way to Houston.

Orange or Vinton needs a Buc-ee's now. There's enough people there to staff one. And heaven knows there's enough traffic. I'd say Winnie might work too but that's somewhat close to the one in Baytown.

Louisiana is about to beat Texas in having it 6 lanes to Sabine River.

There are at least as many construction barrels and jersey barriers on the La side. But there seems to be construction activity there too. Seems like work is moving faster on the La side.

While I do think Texas overall does a good job on road and road construction; yes, that section from the Sabine to Orange has been under construction for what seems like the past 20 years. Jesus, what’s taking so long!!!

They just finished the construction on 1-35 in Waco that broke ground back in the 80s

they're still not done and it's 55 mph through waco currently.

i'm in temple. while ours sucked... it was 7 years and done. they did make a big mistake of dropping it down to 3 lanes at one spot instead 4 all the way to belton, but it's usually a 5 minute delay at worst.

The exchange between 610 (the West Loop by the Galleria) and 59 (the Southwest Freeway) in Houston has been under construction since I've had a driver's license.

It's all torn up again now, and will look basically the same as before they started up again.
