The federal government classifies employees in the private sector that earn above $160,000 as highly compensated so they may not be able to contribute the maximum to their 401(K) in the name of fairness to the lower compensated employees that can't contribute as much to the 401(K).

Add SS, state, and local taxes and it’s over 50 percent. The fact that it’s progressive means that those who actually pay taxes are working for free much longer,
