That was like the best mall in Louisiana back in the 90s. I remember when my Mom moved back to Metairie after my parents got divorced we'd go stay there in the summer and where at that mall practically everyday. I can still remember watching Back To The Future II & III there for the first time.

I was young then so I didn't even realize it was in Kenner, thought it was in Metairie. Hey, I'm not from there.

No. I can't think of a Walmart in any shopping center that I know of. I've seen some Kmart stores in the NE do this. Of course Target has a store at the Esplanade and at Clearview Mall.

I don't consider Clearview to be a real mall.

The continued migratory habits of Whitey McHonkey are to blame. That is what I have learned in paying attention to the media and our leaders. It is always Whiteys fault.

The majority of malls are ticking real estate time bombs. AFter about 20-30 years you see the area going down for various reasons.

Their customers steal instead of purchase. A business can't survive that over time. Not enough actual purchases to offset the losses from the thefts.

Kind of the way this country is headed.

Malls are dead, sir.

Wrong. In rich areas they are still thriving, ghetto malls are dead though.

I believe it's demise happened as a result of Katrina. Before the storm Esplanade was one of the best mall in the south. Conversely Lakeside was starting to slide. After Katrina the major rebuild was to Lakeside rather than Esplanade. My hat's off to whoever owns Lakeside...they are just better business people.

Any place that allows people to congregate for free and not spend money is not going to end well.

Same thing that happened to cortana.

It sucks too. I don't get it. Yes the area behind the mall sucks, but that is across a canal. Then you have those micro-homes in Greenlawn but the crime isn't too bad there. You have a lot of higher end houses in that area and everyone passes this mall to get to Lakeside or Veterans in general. I don't get how Kenner has this crap mall and empty strip malls, yet is developing a large strip mall complex at the redwood site.

Kenner has more Hispanics than blacks. Esplanade was built right next to where all the poor blacks in Kenner live. It was doomed from the start.

Maybe if they just took out that one bridge that connects that area to the mall?

Very true.

I remember going to Esplanade as a kid during the 90's all the time.

Now it's a shite hole.

Middle 3 from what used to be a big Dillard's, but is now entirely a clearance store. You can see where the highly trafficked jewelry and perfume areas are typically on the first floor, is now just racks of clothes.

The last pic is a spacewalk/kids playroom type of place.

I'm so pissed I didn't get a pic of the Obamacare Enrollment Center.
