The driver of the Green Truck up on the Genoa Bridge

A lasting image of the collapsed bridge features that green truck that stopped so close to the edge. We heard from the man who owned the truck that the driver is in shock, from others that the truck stopped and the driver got out and ran to safety.
It was a bit more that just luck. For a brief moment, the car that just had to get ahead of the truck .......thought they had succeeded.
They did, and they saved a life by their agressive driving. Not their own, but a life none the less.
The below from an article in the Chicago Tribune.

One truck driver provided a dramatic account, including a description of how a green truck stopped just short off the abyss and of police heroism as the 51-year-old bridge crumbled. The trucker, identified only as Idris, said the green truck was saved after a car passed, forcing its driver to brake slightly. The car then plunged into the chasm. “That truck driver is the luckiest in the world,” Idris told Sky TG24.

Well, unless you’re moving at walking speed it would take like 1, maybe 2 seconds to travel a full truck length.

I am pretty sure that dude shite his pants and given the circumstances, it would have been more than warranted

I have an internet account for the Tribune and the address that shows up on my computer won't work for you. I could have put it up, only to tick you off.
Chicago Tribune searches for me go to the same damned addy; if you care, a search of their site might get you there. But too much trouble becomes damned near impossible unless it's a major story.
I thought it was worth sharing. Still do.

This was a major highway... at 60 mph, a 25' truck length would take a little over a quarter of a second.

Yeah, people don't understand the relationship between speed and reaction time...let alone stopping.
45 vs 60 is drastically different.

You don’t get to not post pictures or any sort of links and then snap back at people calling you out for it

RIP guy in the car but there's something kind of satisfying about that. I've wished that fate on many an a-hole that I've encountered over the years.

Yep. Stopping distance too. It's something crazy like slowing from 100 to 80 takes roughly the same distance as going from 60 to 0.
I know it's not that exactly but something along those lines.

This site has the video on which is the source of the quote. A truck driver two vehicles back of the green truck.
Also, he says that the Green truck backed up three yards, and then the driver got out and ran.
The interview is in Italian with subtitles and the guy has a really smooth voice for having survived that day.
