The Donald Trump subreddit has mixed feelings about gutted internet privacy rules

For months, one of the firmest bases of Trump support online has been the /r/the_donald community on Reddit, a sometimes-embattled community drawn together to cheer on Donald Trump first as a candidate, and now as president. But with the Trump administration making its first moves to roll back FCC privacy restrictions on internet service providers, some in that community are having second thoughts.
“How does this help Americans, ‘the forgotten man?,’” one user asked in a recent post discussing the resolution. “How does this improve the economy? How does it make America great in any way? It's special interest swamp bullshite and Trump signing this would be the first thing he's done as president to disappoint me.”
The thread opened with a reasonable summary of this week’s joint resolution, asking users what they thought of the changes. Despite the forum’s reputation for unruly behavior, the disagreements remained civil, with some supporting the free-market arguments for deregulation, while others saw it as a betrayal of the president’s populist-focused campaign.
Some held out hope that Trump might veto the bill, something analysts see as highly unlikely. “Trump isn't attached to this,” wrote a user called MichiganMaga313. “This bill is Congressional. This bill is dangerous Neo Con bullshite right here. Let Trump know that you hate this and to veto it.”
“Is there any way we can get god emperor and his advisers to veto this?” another asked. “I guess this'll be a test to see if he is a real populist after all.”

If Trump's subreddit turns against him on this topic, it has to be the final straw right? WTF were the Republican congressmen thinking when they passed this?

Trump doesn't realize that he really fricked up here if goes ahead with signing that shitty and invasive bill that betrays americans privacy.
As fanatical as some of his most devoted supporters are, they too have a limit.

pretty frightening if trump lacks the intuition to understand that this goes against what his base stands for
I would imagine Rand is fricking IRATE over this

This is a bullshite argument. All it does is maintain the status quo.
If you really gave a shite about privacy, you'd have wanted the impending rule to include companies like Google and Facebook.

Getting angry shitstorms from liberals, democrats and SJWs is one thing and can be easily ignored but what happens when it turns bipartisan with people who voted for him that doesn't want this shite?

Do you understand that those companies don't have access to your internet history?

Like there is such a unifying theme.
The only thing that runs deep in every Trump voter is "frick the system" which isn't a reasonable way to govern.

this is a fair point, but I'm referring to those that betrayed Rand

You think google doesn't track every thing you do? You think they don't know every single page you've ever visited if you use Chrome? You think companies would pay for Google Ads if they didn't know what you shopped for?
Not to mention every place you've ever carried your Android phone, and every single thing you've ever done with it.

I'm going to avoid jumping to conclusions and see where the PTB ultimately falls on this issue. Sensible, pragmatic and well-balanced debate is underway and should illuminate the dark nature of the issue.

Again, they don't have access to your internet history if you don't use their products. For most people there isn't a reasonable option for ISP in their area. In fact a majority of Americans only have access to one ISP.
And there is no law that requires ISP to allow an "opt out" option to their customers.

You don't use a phone?
And you're using someone's products. All of them are collecting the same information. Microsoft, Google, Apple. Every one of them.

Kind of like my Samsung smart TV Isn't supposed to be able to listen to me and my wife fricking? Understand it like that??

Yeah I don't like it either, but isn't this actually just repealing a law that was put into place less than a year ago? Reddit is acting as if this is the end of the world as we know it.

You're avoiding my point that ISP's have access to your entire internet history and you can avoid data collection by a company like google if you don't use their products while you normally don't have an alternative with an ISP.
You're vague questions are some attempt at a gotcha moment and not really any retort to these basic facts.
Goodnight guys. And watch out, they're all out to get ya, except Donald. He's not out to get ya. He's here to help.
