Gramps, Tulane DKE.
Dad, LSU Sigma Chi, who's chapter will soon be reinstated.

Ok bro. I’m FAF and can straight up tell you this is bullshite. Hazing is just a way for weak people to try to “establish dominance”. It’s pointless and has no place in the Greek system.

1000x yes. I am in a profession that requires working under real pressure every day, and I can tell you that kind of training is horse excrement. Hazing of the nature we are discussing here is nothing but Sadism. It is absolutely a manifestation of insecurities and deviant pleasure seeking. Should be relegated to obsolescence.

I was in an LSU frat in the 1980's, and I know the type of person that gets off on this type of behavior, and I can tell you I cannot muster any respect for the individual that uses this position to humiliate/shame/subjugate another individual in the name of brotherhood. There are certainly appropriate avenues to establish such relationships, and this cowardly BS is not a valid way.

I can see this world clearly now that I have boys getting close to going to college. I am not totally anti-Greek at the moment, but there are some serious flaws that need to be fixed.

Word is the kid was trying to bring his whole DKE pledge class to help reinstate Sigma Chi.

If true, I'm OK with him getting doused with gasoline. What a little ratfricker.

I'm wondering if those kids were encouraged by the alums to stonewall, and if so, whether the alumni have any culpability. If I'm the parent of one of those kids arrested for secondary violations, that's one of the things I'm thinking about.

The law practices that specialize in hazing injuries and deaths keep boilerplate filings in their holsters that name the chapter, national, university, and alumni association. The officers of the alumni chapter who had zero interaction with the active chapter will be named individually in the hope of getting in their pockets as well.

I was in a fraternity at LSU and was never hazed at all, beyond some minor joking type stuff. We did have to clean up after parties and some other things that I don't consider hazing, that would probably meet the definition today.

Joining a fraternity was a great experience for me, and I am close friends with many of them to this day. I highly recommend the Greek system.

I concur on your thoughts. I was in a frat and the worst "hazing" that happened to me was I was kidnapped at 2 AM, blindfolded and dropped off in a sugar cane field in BFE Iberville Parish with no money and cell phones didn't even exist yet. On my own to get back to campus. Was never subjected to any physical violence. Being in a frat was one of the best things I ever did. I met hundreds of people that I would never have otherwise met and got to know. In fact, last night I met a few on my frat brothers from back in the day and had drinks and caught up.

That's a fricking fairytale. I'll tell you from experience, when a national fraternity reinstates a chapter on a campus, they're extremely particular on who they target to fill that first new pledge class. They're looking for campus leaders, not hand-me-downs from the most notorious frat on campus.

At least you are now posting something of substance that can be discussed instead of:
quote:

Shut them down. All of them.

quote:

Let's allow more kids to be beaten and killed before we jump to conclusions!

quote:

Well let's cheer them on then!

And if you're being honest, not all of those links are like the others, right?
