You really think wearing masks does absolutely nothing? That's your stance?

The CDC released a study saying they shouldn't be mandated for Healthcare workers--are are exposed to it at much higher rates than the general public--but that they may be used to prevent community spread, and the public should be educated on their correct use.

That means 1) don't take it on and off and 2) wear it over your nose. Half of the people walking around wearing the damn things don't know how to use them properly, so no, they aren't effective.

Uhhh I was told masks have no benefit by the experts. I truly don't know what to believe. That's my stance.

"There is no specific evidence to suggest that the wearing of masks by the mass population has any potential benefit. In fact, there's some evidence to suggest the opposite in the misuse of wearing a mask properly or fitting it properly," Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of the WHO health emergencies program, said at a media briefing in Geneva, Switzerland, on Monday.

Because they're two different scenarios, my man. You eating a cheeseburger every day only fricks you and your family over. That won't ever possibly lead to my mom or dad being in the ICU unable to breathe or clogging emergency rooms and ICUs.

Someone could put you or your family member in the ICU tomorrow by any number of ways. I'd put someone not wearing a mask waaayyy down that list.

I get you want to protect your family, so do I. But forcing your position on other people isn't the way to go about that. Focus on the things you can control because as we know, other people are fricking morons.

Sure. But why is it wrong to want to make that an even less likely event to occur?

We tried the whole personal responsibility thing. I of course only can and do control what I can control myself. Sometimes government and government mandates, for all of the obvious associated faults, risks, pitfalls, etc. has to step in and fix some shite. I don't have a problem with mandating something as benign as wearing a mask when in close contact with others in the general public if it means we can slow the spread and one day return to some semblance of normalcy.

We have different philosophies of life.

I've realized I'm much happier when controlling what I can control and not trying to bend others to my will. It's exhausting and never works.

Best of luck to you and your fam.

I completely agree with this. I'm very much a mind my own business kind of guy. But I'm not trying to bend anyone, the state is doing it for me

Got bad news for you, slowing the spread will never get us back to normal with the way our governments are regulating this thing. The second you get back to normal cases begin to rise again, and we end up right back here.

The government responses are just delaying the inevitable and have been for months, although along the way there is still plenty of suffering to be had.

Next thing you know, government will ban smoking in the grocery store. Where will it end?

well there does exist some line between these two things because one does feel a lot more intrusive than the other

perhaps it’s because smoking is a voluntary activity and breathing is not.

I support the wearing of masks, if worn properly they probably decrease transmission by 50% or so.

Way more than that, if you are coughing or sneezing.

Way less than that otherwise.

Not even remotely what that says. It says "may" help IF worn correctly. So I guess all of these people with the mask over their mouth only are mouth-breathers and have no need to cover their nose.

On second thought, that makes sense for most of them I see like that. Take Mrs. Broome for instance...
