Y'all, c'mon now. We got names we must say and settlements to give out and lives to matter to worry about our city going to absolute shite.

Ya'll want the city to clean up the panhandlers, but don't want to pay for it. Ok. Do you think you're already paying for that service? If not, what budget item should be reduced to pay for such a service? Maybe Mayorial salary?

Maybe we could just solve it like all of our other problems here in the state. Let's give a tax cut to every local company that hires a homeless person.

Yeah.
Police and jails.

Maybe not build a brand new library that no one uses, and maybe if you do build it, don't frick up the building process costing the taxpayer even more.
Maybe not have a council on aging that steals money left and right.

So let's just throw money at someone to fix it? Explain to me how you fix it without using the police and jail?

Not to make this about race but a certain type of people are known for refusing to use crosswalks. Literally one could be 10 feet away and they’ll still cross the busy road.

How about taking money from CATS? We doubled their budget and the number of bus riders stayed the same.
How about taking money ftom the Library Board? They tore down a sound building and replaced it with a cutting edge building that almost collapsed because of its design.
How about bike shares? 800K doesn’t there.
The Bridge Center decided to give millions of dollars in improvements and rent to one of its board members.
The COA doubled their budget and there’s little accountability there.
The fact is EBR Parish taxes as a whole aren’t low, we just don’t prioritize the dollars as we should.

The city needs to be firm and consistent that panhandling will not be allowed. Once they know they cannot make money here they will go away.

Allowing villages to be set up in the woods and organized groups of panhandlers to flourish is where we are now.

They need to go and so do the leaders that want that. It is a tough problem. You'd like to see these people get help but not at the expense of your city. Vegas, SF and Austin are all examples of cities where the homeless problem went unchecked.

Who is allowing the village in the woods?

Is there even anyone to be held accountable?

Is it worth the police's time to bust someone for vagrancy. Do you think the vagrant cares if he spends the night in jail?

Policeman wastes his time, he wastes the judge's time. Everyone's time. The panhandler does. not. care. he'll be back.

My point is, relying on the police department to handle the panhandling problem hasn't worked. They've tried. They've failed.

Vagrancy is a problem for society to fix, not the criminal justice system.

ok, how many can you take in to your home?

or are you advocating vigilantism to get rid of the homeless? If so, how should we get rid of them?

Which is funny because BRPD made sure to get the squatters out real quick when they set up across the street near the St. Luke's entry.

I do not have the answer, but spending millions in mental health facilities, millions on good banks and millions in drug clinics hasn’t worked either.

Out of sight out of mind.
I know of two major camps. One in the woods behind Ralph & Kacoos and the other in the woods between Blue Cross and Siegen.
