KPLC just showed a good shot from the lake with the dust cleared and trees hiding the debris. Crazy to see that angle and no tower

Said day for SW Louisiana

I remember growing up in the 80s and how hopping downtown was with the Hilton on the lake

I was kind of anticipating a botched job because, well, Louisiana, but it's always satisfying to see such a well controlled demo.

I doubt it will be a Casino. They built a land-based casino just over the bridge and renamed it to the Horseshoe brand. Used to Isle of Capris boats until the boat got stuck under the bridge during Laura and they applied to go land-based.

There is a big push to make the lake front Kemah or Galveston-like. There is a new children's museum and Crying Eagle Brewery going in next door to each other around the lake. They will connect the lake front walk to those two buildings and keep developing an entertainment area IMO

There are already a few places to eat, a few good live music venues, new apartments, etc downtown all within walking distance. A new set of apartments just opened up this week too that are pretty nice. They need to rebuild GiGis gym, though. It's the only real eyesore downtown currently.

There is a lot happening downtown with old buildings and some new ones going up and the Civic Center has been renamed and remodeled and the city is supposed to concentrate on making more use of it.

The only issue is there a very old but sparsely populated cemetery right in the corner of the lake front taking up prime real estate. I wish they would relocate it and really make the downtown an entertainment space.

The new bridge should take out the trashy hooker hotels on the North side of I10. The only downside is it will take out Steamboat Bills too but at least it cleans up those drug filled hotels.

This was my view. It was both very sad to see it go and one of the craziest things I have ever seen. Although I was clearly watching it with my own eyes it just seemed...fake and surreal lol. It just disappeared.

Kind of glad it's gone. It was barely in use prior to the storms and took up prime land. As long as the city doesn't fumble it, they have a real chance to finally make the downtown the second entertainment area behind the LDL and Golden Nugget area.
