You were not picked up for walking down the street. You were picked up because you were the closest nearby match for the description of a perpetrator given by the victim of a crime. If he said it was a middle aged white dude that hit him, do you think the cops would have pulled you in?

I'm not saying it doesn't happen. I'm saying lumping all these kind of incidents into the same category creates a false narrative. It does not help solve anything.

Now, if the kid said he was hit by a middle aged white dude and they grabbed you-- sure.

Or if no crime was reported anywhere around, and they grabbed you, that's an issue.

I will back track slightly on my Dylan Roof comment. I'll admit defend wasn't the right word. I should have said we had posters trying to justify his mindset. There is a difference. Point remains that ignorance is prevalent among all races.

What bowl cut boy did was wrong and I hope big bubba rapes him everyday.

But in some communities (regardless of race) people are becoming martyr figures for dumb shite such as resisting arrest. It's becoming a shite show

The kid who was assaulted 1on1 with fists was like 16 years old. I was 10. I doubt anything matched the description other than skin color.

My point is that the specific issue is irrelevant. They are going 90% vote block one way no matter the issue, whether they agree with 55% of the platform, 5% of the platform, or 100% of the platform.

Let me ask you a question and I would like an honest answer. Why do I have to say anything? Why would you expect any black person to have to say anything?

You're being painted with a very large brush because others like you aren't standing up to it. You're not happy with being lumped together with those jackwagons that riot and loot, but you also aren't willing to do much about it.

You can't expect that painting to change as long as you allow -through your (general use of the word "your") inaction- people you disagree with to be set up as your representation.

In my opinion it is only the individuals who are intellectually weak who are unable to use true discernment. Over 99% of our city is going on with their day, but because you click on Facebook and see a post that upsets you, then that person must speak for all.

Grandma fell, little Suzie needs braces, Uncle Tom is drinking again, Tommy got a speeding ticket and what the hell is for dinner???

People have lives other than worrying if the surface portrayal of some group is accurate or not. Today's information age is a blessing and a curse. Anyone can find out just about anything with enough time and patience, but the overload of information they have to sort through to get it can be intimidating so unless it's something they deeply care about they aren't going to put in the time nor effort.

Most people still get their news from the networks. The networks work on a philosophy of "if it bleeds, it leads" because they have to make sales in order to stay in business. Because of that (whether they actively understand it or not) they are bought into perpetuating dramatic narratives. Allow me to give you a small example.

A middle-aged black man works in my building, he was interviewed by a local television station (WVLA) during the summer riots. During the 10-15 minutes he spoke with the reporter he said he felt the reporter kept trying to guide him toward commenting about black-v-white. He danced around it as best he could but at one point he went into it for about 10 seconds. Guess which 10 seconds made the news.

So here we have a vocal minority controlling the narrative of what people who look like you think and a media that goes after it because it foments drama for them to report but also because there's no one or group that looks like you but thinks like you countering the other group.

quote:

I also noticed that you ignored my David Duke question.

Didn't ignore it, just didn't see it (things were hectic last night around the house). All apologies.

quote:

Since he is a white politician I and a person in the news, does he represent your views? The views of all whites?

How many other white politicians and/or persons in the news have supported Duke, his group or the Klan? I honestly cannot think of a single one. In the few interviews I've seen or heard (including debates) the person asking the questions' attitudes generally range from slight hostility to incredulous amusement. tl;dr no one in the media takes him seriously.

How many black politicians and/or persons in the news have supported BLM? Just off the top of my head: John Legend, Beyonce, Jay Z, Lebron James, Nick Cannon, Dwayne Wade, The Weekend...

quote:

If you disagree with his opinions and words would you like to apologize to me and all blacks?

That makes no sense. If anything he would need to apologize to me if he were stating he spoke for all whites.

More to the point, no one is asking you to apologize for riotous blacks. However, it would be nice to see someone (or preferably a group) from the black community with your mindset standing up against these groups that create the narrative that you're all hive-minded.

I'd be willing to bet we share many of the same values.

Of that I have no doubt.

That's exactly what I addressed. You don't know why they chose to vote for a particular candidate, you are talking as if your assumption is fact. So the FACT that black voter turnout decreased by 14%, says what to you? You don't know what issues are important to them, so you can only ASSume that the issues are irrelevant.

most blacks got whinier and more ballsy 8 years ago. It was like they drank the secret koolaid. They don't bother me. If I don't watch the news, I generally have extremely low interactions with them, so I give no fricks about them anymore than I do anyone else I don't want to know.

Once again, I can speak for myself. David Duke held political office in Louisiana and was almost governor. Can we then agree that by your logic he speaks for the white community?

Did the white people elect David Duke as governor?

Have you had conversations with "most" blacks to know that they are whinier and/or more ballsy? I seriously doubt it. I can say the same thing about whites the past 8 years, but I choose to deal with people individuality.

The only this is about is money. Nothing else. White cops kill a black man while attempting arrest means somebody is getting paid. The more social unrest that can be instigated, the bigger the pay day. The instigators don't give 2 fricks about Alton Sterling, his family, the cops or "justice". They are no better than ambulance chasing lawyers looking for a pay day.

I'm sure it's about 50/50, I don't understand how you can say that as 100% fact though. I can understand your thought process about someone trying to get something, but how can you say that it's only about the money?

I also do not like the statistical misuse of "most" "some" etc., so I apologize for that.

Replace with appropriate: "A select few number of..."
