I like to go in mid September. Still warm enough with 1/3 the people.

I'm weird. When I go to the mountains, I don't want anyone around. I much prefer the mountains to the beach. Haven't been to the beach in 10+ years.

But when I do go to the beach, I'd prefer there to be a crowd. Not insanity like the pic but a dead beach just doesn't do it for me. I'm not into the water, so I guess I like the people watching.

[embed]Destin has turned more into a status thing than anything

All the suburban housewives with the 30a stickers on their 90k Tahoes can’t go anywhere else or they’ll be looked at differently[/embed]

Geography Major?

Destin to 30A Grayton Beach 23 miles 52 minutes

Technically, that’s Sandestin and Miramar Beach. Destin is where those condos are to the west almost on the horizon. I used to go there in the late 70’s/early 80’s and none of that was there. None of it. That 8 mile 6 lane congested, commercialized stretch of Hwy 98 between Destin and Sandestin/Miramar Beach did not exist and US 98 followed the shoreline. It was undiscovered paradisio. I marvel at how it has been utterly ruined.

The picture in the OP is straight up Sunnyvale Trailer Park (Jim Lahey, Trailer Park Supervisor) and not Sunnyvale, TX

I made the mistake of going to Ship Island one day last year. After my wife and I set up on our rental chairs, a Mexican horde ages 2 to 60 setup right behind us with an ice chest sized jam box blaring some Spanish gibberish. We moved 50 yards east pretty quickly.

Know why no one flies a Biden flag?
Because they aren’t fricking weirdos?(but Biden people are often weird as frick for many other reasons )

I’m going to vote Trump a third time. Flying any politicians flag is fricking weird and dumb as hell.

Just guessing, but if that is indeed a law, the sand above where the water touches can be private, but the area where the water is may be public? I don't know, but I know the 30A beaches that I go to are labeled as private.

Interesting so there appears to be two partial rights ...not reading the actual codes but several articles about it. Beach property owners do try to put up "private property" signs to keep people out and they do have some aspect of private property but their private property ends at the high tide or erosion control line. Below that area to the water is public space

Don't know where that pic was taken. Could be photoshopped. Obviously exaggerated.
Got back from Destin yesterday and it was nothing close to that. It was quite pleasant actually.

And btw, the resort areas we were at did not allow personal tents and umbrellas in front of the beach rental umbrellas.

There's so much wrong here to unpack

Destin is FAR from a status symbol and has been around for decades. This picture is Sandestin, which is a resort down 98 technically in Destin but down the road from most of it. 30A is a different area entirely and much more expensive and never quite this crowded (although it can get packed in spots, just not like this).

Suburban housewives in their 90k Tahoes don't have Destin stickers on their cars

And the phrase "turned into" is funny because 30A stickers have been on cars for two frickin' decades.

Idk how long it’s been “30a”. At least 12+ years that I can think of. Back in the 90s people referred to those places by their town name (now granted 30a hadn’t run into one big town back then).

Some dude that lived down their copyrighted the 30A name and is making bank off of the brand and all the junk he sells.

I don’t think so. That’s the beach at Sandestin resort which has extensive properties on both sides of US 98 on the Gulf and on Choctawhatchee Bay. That is the only stretch of beach if you’re staying at Sandestin and want to use Sandestin’s facilities.

Exact same situation happened to us last year. After the 2nd consecutive day most of the families just stayed by the pool. Selfish mofos
