I had an electrical contractor buddy I was talking to a few days ago. We both own small businesses. He said he can't hire apprentices to learn the trade because they don't want to pay their dues making $15 an hour.

No offense to your buddy, but pipe helpers starting out are making $2-$4 more an hour starting in different areas. Soft crafts will need to catch up with the times, or be doomed to sub-par labor leftovers to try to get jobs done.

I was responding to your post, which is why I only mentioned the geriatrics and not the young cry-babies you speak of. I don't know why you are being so angry.

LOFL, passive-aggressive much?

Non union? I think union apprentices start out higher than that here.

Only pics will determine if she is being adequately paid for all that grinding.

To clarify, this is in southern Oklahoma where the COL is dirt cheap. Not where where I am in California.

And he would hire with no experience or training

one said their mom made 6k as a teacher in 1975 (presumably in a low COL state) as if that was much lower than today's starting salary.
in that year a Ford f150 cost $3k brand new and a 3 bed 2 bath home cost $25k.

Same exact thing at any mechanical contractor along the gulf coast at any plant. It's still way more than that to start, and most pick up the tab for training after 6 months.

That's kind of my pout, if that's the case then why are millenials bitching? There are jobs out there. Maybe not in the location or starting pay they would like, but you can learn a damn good trade and in a few years make bank.

Sick burn kid. Good luck in life. Hope you can mature past your melancholy and resentment to have an enjoyable existence. Might want to quit wasting time though.

Either there are a lot more people on this board who didn't go to college or there lots of posters advocating for positions they themselves would never take.

I was in the military from 21 years and retired and also cimbat disabled. I also started a small business 10 years ago. I also am certified as an appraiser, which is what I do full time. I am sick and fricking tired of people whining about other people. Have some damn personal responsibility.

Earnings have declined despite the fact that today's young people are better educated

More people with a bachelors degree does not equal "better educated". Assuming that a degree in 1975 is as challenging to earn, it simply means that more people are equally educated today compared to 1975.

The simple law of supply and demand would explain the lower wages.

Yes. And a degree in anthropology or French doesn't mean that you are more educated.

The government is more to blame for this than any other party. Always interesting to see small government conservatives run to defend it.

A degree in anthropology most certainly means you're more educated than an accounting or engineering major.

Studied but not more educated. Trust me, my daughter has a degree in anthropology.

I bet she did some grinding to get to the top.

Grinding on some dick, if you get my reference.
