There’s a reason I pay that ridiculous bill at Parkview. And it ain’t because I want to. Woodlawn is an unacceptable school district for my children

Same. My kid is zoned for Tara though.
What about getting them into either Baton Rouge High or Lee Magnet High School?

So if we assume this is true, then why would any functional parent want to send their kid to a failing school which - by your definition - is populated with kids whose parents don’t care?

To be fair, the author states that he attempted to contact several leaders of the St George movement, and none of them returned his messages. The article may be one sided, but St George didn't do anything to make sure their view was represented.
They’ve basically agreed to a media boycott after all the bullshite accusations of racism and dirty unethical stuff that went down with Together Baton Rouge last time. They are winning; opening up to people opposed to you does nothing but harm the movement.

I’ve worked at all types of schools. One thing I’ve learned over the years is that parental involvement solves all solvable “problems.”
Obviously you haven't.
The overwhelming amount of time is dedicated to problem children. The ones who want to learn are truly left behind. This holds true in every underperforming school in the country
Why would you send a child there?
My guess is you have no kids and went to a private school

You think there is no effect on children if they go to bad schools?

They have a much higher chance of getting into disciplinary trouble both at school and at home.

Hypothetical for you -- in a vacuum, which school would you rather your children attend? You are equidistant from both and both have identical racial makeup.
School A: Received an F grade, 50% graduation rate, poor standardized testing results, high
School B: Received an A grade, 99% graduation rate, very good standardized testing results

Meh! Everyone knows that if you have any money you send your kids to private schools in Louisiana. No need to create a new city and school district. In NOLA anyone with any money sends their kids to catholic school and in BTR it should be the same. If you don't like public schools in EBR then send your kids to CHS, Episcopal, St. Michael, St. Josephs and those Christian schools and private academies who have their roots in wanting to maintain segregation.

They're pretty much learning on their own.

A pattern has emerged over the past two decades: White, wealthy communities have been separating from their city’s school districts to form their own. According to a recent report from EdBuild, a nonprofit focused on public-school funding, 73 communities have split to form their own school districts since 2000, and the rate of places doing so has rapidly accelerated in the past two years. St. George, which activists seek to incorporate as a city, is a textbook example.
How dare us whites try to make a better place for our kids. How dare us whites not want to he around rif-raff that ain't changing whether wealthy whites go to school with poor blacks or not.
It is what it is. The problem is far deeper than whites leaving. And wait...Gravy and the like do not want whites anyway? Or do they? It almost sounds like they want whites to be 2nd class citizens.

What would actually happen to the kids if they went to “bad” schools? The schools thing is and always has been a bullshite excuse for you-know-what, and we all know it.
People probably dont give a frick about the kids at bad schools.
I pay a shite ton in property taxes to send my kids to good schools in Texas. Good neighborhood schools. Ones where my kids aren’t sent all over the city in the name of fairness. So in Texas suburbs instead of having shite schools all around we have some very good schools, some mediocre, and a few crap ones. Far better than what’s in BR

Both are good schools but we live on the opposite side of the city. We actually lived in Denham when she started school and I still put her in private mostly because we planned on moving closer to work eventually.
My wife and I can fairly easily afford private school so it was more of a choice for us. If I had more than one in school I might rethink that though.

Man, they are just stats. If your kid goes to school with a bunch of kids that get in trouble a lot, they're much more likely to get in trouble. Kids, even the best ones, fall into peer pressure and "normalization" of bad behaviors. You can be a perfect parent, but if they see fist fights and cheating at school constantly, that becomes their normal and they're desensitized to it.

Maybe those residents who don't have money to send their kids to private schools want to create a community with good public schools? And not continue to fund projects that they get zero benefit from?

That’s simply not true. I’ve personally worked with a lot of people from poor backgrounds who care very much about their child’s education.
