I don't have any plans to "officially" retire, going to keep busy as long as I enjoy it, I can't just sit around the house or golf every day, keeps me "young"

Some of those old people just want to work. I know my parents are scared to death of getting sedentary in their old age because they’ve seen it take so many of their friends and family out.

They likely aren't in a high tax bracket for this to make enough of a difference or to fully offset the cost of the new car they will need to buy sooner than they otherwise would. I doubt these uber / door dash folks are saving a sinking fund to replace the car.

Putting a shite load of miles are your car and wearing it out sooner and not making any money doesn't justify the "tax savings" from your "write off".

It doesn't make any sense imo.

Final meme: Write off is cringe and don't say it. It's a deduction.

Wealthiest nation in history, and we can’t give old people some peace in their final years.

But we can send billions to Ukraine. We are living in a travesty.

My dad bought a place in Montana about 2 years before he retired. He spent a lot of time there. Hiking, biking, camping etc. It was his passion when he was still able to do it. Sadly he can't anymore. He sold the place last year.

They aren’t below me. It’s just not reality that someone is delivering food to be social and meet people lmao.

Notice you didn’t answer the question because you can’t remember a time in the last 5 years you’ve said anything to a food delivery person beyond “thanks have a good one”

Half of it is people who are bored and the other half are people who's retirement never matched the current price of living hikes and inflation going on in this current climate.

Of course then you have the sanity issue.

According to the OT, if you don't live in a 750K home, you're doing something wrong.

my dad was an entrepreneur and worked until he couldn't work(Alzheimer's), we even kept his office open after he had really lost his mental faculties so he could go to "work" everyday, once he wasn't even able to do that he really went down fast, mom lived to 93 and she stayed busy right up to the end, taught Sunday school, volunteered, helped out wherever she could, none of of it was because she had to, I don't think it's a good thing to just work for a good portion of your life and then just become a veg

You think they're buying a new car to do DoorDash/Uber?

Wat? Are you retarded?

They are likely using their regular car and wearing it out sooner than otherwise by ubering. That's the point -- ubering/door dashing is a negative ROI and a shite deal long term for the workers. but muh TaX wRiTe OfF!!!1111 REEEEEEEEE!!!!

...because I don't do food delivery but I have witnessed these "older" people working for DoorDash in restaurants having conversations with the wait staff and patrons on multiple occasions.

Our CEO is in his 70s. Has TONS of money. Has zero hobbies and no interest in gaining any. Does NOT golf, play tennis, fish, hunt, hike, work on old cars, etc. Goes to the gym every day for 2 hours. That's his hobby. Takes a vacation about every 2-3 years. Can't stand his wife. He will be carried out of here on a stretcher. Our office is his social outlet.

I think a ceo running a business is fundamentally different than the group we are talking about here.

Because the oils shocks of the 70's killed 3 presidents in a row (Nixon, Ford, and Carter) so the next guy went deep in debt to get re elected. POTUS since (both sides) saw how well it went ...

Lather
Rinse
Repeat

Now all that stuff that kept getting pushed forward is coming home to roost

Problem is the generation of solid workers are dying off and being replaced by folks with no money skills and no desire to actually work hard at their jobs.

I would suggest a repeat of the old WPA but neither D's or R's in Congress will push for it.

Food delivery is expensive as frick and is a huge waste of money.

$20 extra to have them deliver it?

Just go pick it up.

Absolutely, I am here arguing with you about the potential benefits for retirees to do work for Uber/Lyft/DoorDash on an online forum.

Yes, the "tax write-off" is the only reason I stated for people to pursue these endeavors.
