ask the ones who retired around LSU how great it is now.

Sporting events, concerts (think school orchestra etc), theater…

I figure it is a two fold issue. One, everything shot up in price for these folks, maybe just a couple hundred bucks a month..but that will cut into their retirement funds and they need to make some money to cover. J
In what 50 year span has things not shot up? Who the hell has a retirement model that is using 1980’s-1990’s prices as guide to how much things will cost in 2022? if I have to go back to work at 70 because the price of gas went up $1 per gallon then I did something wrong.

Universities host events/seminars/etc just about every single day that are barley frequented by students

There are so many better destinations I would consider retiring to before Baton Rouge for example. I just don't see the correlation.

Some do, mainly retirees with an educational background. Corvallis seems to be a popular place.

I’ve always though college towns (of major universities) are the ideal place for a retiree (and honestly most people) to live
Walkable areas with coffee shops and whatnot, going to have lots of trees and gardens, hospital system, entertainment, culture
My ideal place to live would be some college town with 30-40k people or whatever. Some place like Charlottesville, VA. Enough conveniences without too many people

I plan to eat at the dining hall on campus every single day when I’m retired. But yes campus towns usually have nice restaurants, theater, topical speakers, sporting events, etc

is that why the number of nursing homes in this country exploded in 1970s and late 90s/early 2000s?
Baby boomers are the largest generation. Pretty sure that’s why. Numbers went up because population of those going to nursing homes or assisted living facilities went up, but don’t you worry. Well make sure to keep them full for you.

Or are you blaming boomers for putting their parents in homes?

I have a 529 plan for myself because I want to be able to take classes occasionally when I retire. Something to consider if you are the type of person that enjoys learning new things.

Insert whatever college tow you want. Not big cities that happens to have colleges (Dallas, NOLA as examples).

people will defend/justify it but it's very, very sad
Defend what? I mean maybe they want to work? Not sit around and get old. Maybe they are saving up for a new sand wedge that isn’t in their fixed income budget. Either way I don’t see any level of control any of us have on this or Why we would need to justify it?

Many schools offer this free to seniors, the entire University System of Georgia is an example. Miss State also offers this to people 60 and older.

Baton Rouge is a shite college town.
Think like Athens, Ga, Oxford, MS or Asheville, NC or Fayetteville AR
