Labor economist Teresa Ghilarducci said, “Older workers are losing their jobs at a faster rate, relative to younger people.” She added, “A total of four million people potentially pushed into retirement before they are ready.”

Your quote is misleading. I see the constantly where the 65 - 75 stayed too long and are replacing them with 30 and under as they are cheaper and get no benefits. The group she is referring to are the ones in the middle 35 - 55 who are being let go so they can get cheaper labor but with poor work habits an d little or no actual knowledge.

All so some corporate fat cat can swell their bonus with the money they save. Don't care if it runds the company bust as they will get that golden parachute while the lower management and workers have to get a job serving fast food.

Young people don’t want to work or are uneducated I guess.

I'd love to see the faces of the same types of people you responded to imagine the economic collapse that would happen if their "don't spend, save" plans were enacted.

A drastic shift would cause significant economic pain in the short to medium term, but would probably result in a far more stable future.

We just aren’t designed to handle that pain.

The other aspect is trying to figure out how to manage a massively growing elderly population that has zero savings.

That will definitely hurt too.

My dad bought a place in Montana about 2 years before he retired. He spent a lot of time there. Hiking, biking, camping etc. It was his passion when he was still able to do it. Sadly he can't anymore. He sold the place last year.
Why didn't he just retire there? Per the OT, Montana is where we should all live!

I suspect at some point in the future those will be grabbed by govt to prop up pension plans.

Nope

Price assisted living, the cost are unreal and not like that money buys better food or anything. 6K - 12K a month and go there on a weekend or holiday not on the weekday they give you the sales pitch. Little or no staff in many places.

He couldn't handle the winters and was splitting time between there and LA. My dad won't fly anymore and got too old to make the drive and be that isolated from family.

Younger folks think a lot of that type of work is beneath them.

With this kind of performance, I might.

Inflation. People think they have enough put away to finish off their lives and then inflation. Suddenly, they have choice of starving, losing their homes or going back to work at 70 or 80. Of course, many really can't work and are in deep trouble.

I'd be pretty stressed right now if I was 60. I've got some time on my side though.

It seems the left coast zoomer mentality is that they are post-work humans. Other people work, they loaf.

Never mind manual vs cubicle work, they dislike work period.

I'm not going to stress it too much. If I need to keep working, I will start my own gig.

Most of the guys who work where I do are on traditional pensions. They started a couple of decades ago, union guys, you cant fire them. They're basically unemployable now.

That’s extra income! Not all elderly folks are just withering away on retirement/benefits pay. Some still want to enjoy things in life like having shyt, traveling and socializing.

My last job still had a pension but they sold off my department and bought us out of it. I'd have probably stayed there my whole career otherwise.

Y’all keep posting this, but the data doesn’t correlate.

Nearly half of baby boomers have zero retirement savings while a decent amount of the remaining percent that do have less than $100k.

My mom probably would fall under this category. She basically lives on state retirement money. She doesn't work though but she's basically just getting by.
