You guys are lying to yourselves if you don't think there are A LOT of rehabilitation options for people inside prisons, including taking courses for GED or even technical colleges. The problem is, the people inside the prisons are degenerates in the main and they don't want to better themselves.

Interesting numbers to me. Less than 20% of federal convicts and less than 7% of state convicts are in private prisons.

Gimme a break. Article tries to drum up sympathy for a bunch of felons while shaming taxpayers. There is little rehabilitation at Angola because about 90% of the convicts have sentences that exceed their natural life expectency. Maybe an article linking unwed motherhood to drugs to crime to jail would be more informative. Trying the turn the word "Plantation" into a pejorative concept is pretty weak. Like my man Mike Foster used to say, "Commit the crime, Do the time"

nothing like believing what a convict says. You don't commit aggravated rape on someone b/c you're on drugs. You're just a POS that needs to fry.

The guys that are in prison for life, they should either be killed or pretty much become slaves, and should be at their own prison with no fences. You don't like your prison life, cross the line and get shot, your fellow inmates will bury you out in the field.
Guys that are in jail for something like 5-15 years, give them the option to join the military and upon completion of their 4-8 year service their criminal records will be expunged. If they try to escape or want out, their sentence is doubled. I know many say this is stupid, but i think if a good plan is put in place and the communication to the inmate and his family is clear and concise, we could be successful with turning many of these kids lives around. Obviously i'm talking about this option for the guys under say age 25.
these criminals either want to better themselves or not. If they don't want to, there's nothing we can do about that, they just suck at life.

Then you should know that there is training there available for inmates to learn just about any trade. There are educational opportunities and ministries of almost every denomination. An inmate has every opportunity to have a job, earn a wage, attend classes of all kinds all within the compound.

Ive worked and lived on the "Farm". Ive signed slips for inmates " call out" passes to attend all these things.

I would like to see those numbers before the asylums were shut down. There is a reason horror movies are based on these places. Some still exist and I have been in them. It's not pretty.

There weren't very many when I was locked up but not all prison systems are the same, I can only speak to my experience.

That's true it probably does vary from State to State. I am very much in favor of offering those kinds of programs as well.
BTW I was locked up in county jail for 48 hours once and it was the fricking worst. I have nothing but the utmost respect for anyone who has made it through hard time.

End the War on Drugs
Stop sending illegal aliens to jails, start air-dropping them in the middle of the Pacific.
Abolish any incentive for prisons to profit in any way, if that means doing away with privatized prisons so be it.
Those three things alone would reduce inmate populations by 90% I'd wager.
