Agree that is not a good number. Just arguing with a guy that doesn't know what he is talking about. We could be headed for an economic downturn or even a recession. We have not been and are not in a recession now.
I will quit taking this thread off topic. We own a couple of Airbnb rentals. They are doing fine. Bookings are slightly down this year, but we believe it is because the supply of short term rentals have increased so much over the past few years. Too many entered the market in the past few years. But we still get a decent amount of bookings. Our rentals are lake homes so that helps keep our business fairly steady. We do not need every weekend booked for it to be profitable.

It truly is the fee scam. $100 per night for four nights comes out over $1k due to fees. frick that. Give me a hotel and my free waffles.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again airbnbs and hotels are not fighting for the same audience. Airbnbs are trying to attract large groups who want a full condo with a kitchen and living areas. If you factor in the cost for 10 people to get hotel rooms vs one condo the airbnb is exponentially cheaper.

Exponentially? You sure you know what that word means?

Why don’t you include it in the cost upfront instead of hiding it in extra fees?
I can answer this one: The rental rate is taxed, but the cleaning fee is not. If we included the cleaning fee in the rental rate, the guest would be charged 12.75% tax on the cleaning fee (9.75% state and 3% county).
