What in the world is going on. I would randomly look to see what's going on because I have family in BR. Now it will not allow you to read stories, but take you to a subscription page. Please Louisiana isn't that important to me to pay for the little news it has.

I use the app. It doesn't give me the whole paper but I can see most of it.

If on a PC using Chrome right click on the link and select open in Incognito mode.

If on a cell phone using Chrome, long tap the link and select open in incognito mode.

If using Safari on your phone, long click on the link, select copy, open private tab, paste URL into browser address bar.

You can send me 5 of the 10 dollars you just saved.

It should work until, the advocate’s computer guru(s) figure a way around this loophole but in my Tech mind, the only way to prevent someone from doing this would be to collect IP address information and paywall block based on that instead of cookies.

Another way would be to Geoblock Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi IP addresses to go straight to the paywall while allowing other addresses free access.

Yeah, people ain’t jumping through all those goofy hoops just to read a story in the fricking Advocate.

Dumb move by them. I know a lot of these local rags and their online offerings are struggling to find a way to survive financially, but I don’t think this is going to do it. Nobody is subscribing to that shite.

That’s my point. My 75 year old mother ain’t doing that shite to read the Advocate on her iPad. The cool kids don’t care to read it period.

Ergo, dumb arse business move.

It is not stealing when they use outdated tech that can be easily circumvented.

It is not like I posted my Advocate username and password and shared it like some people do with HBOGo. That is closer to stealing. But HBOGo is pretty much in the same boat as the advocate by using outdated technology that can be easily circumvented.

More than likely, your 75 year old mother still has home delivery and hence has online access.

I changed the Advocate bookmark on my browser to WAFB.

The end.

More truthfully, she has home delivery and wouldn’t have a clue how to access online access through it, if it takes more than just clicking on an article. Fact is, none of their articles are”worth” more than that for most people.

This ain’t a win for them no matter how y’all want to slice it. Watch and see, I guess.

I'm not going to have a panic attack about the Advocate going subscription only. I have far greater things to worry about.

Right? If you know how to crack a safe it’s not stealing when you take what’s inside

There is zero chance I’m paying the advocate for online news.

20 years ago you bought a newspaper. Now you expect it for free. You're the problem

I tried that and it worked. Then it occurred to me that the Advocate freakin blows and I went back to ignoring it.
