I think Nicholls and Northwestern are the only significant cuts/consolidations I could see being plausible. That's probably being generous, though. I mean shite, we can't even close down SUNO which is basically an adult day care center/source of jobs for black pols to dish out.

If you have the same amount of students, then how much will this really save? You have to factor in the cost of building out the universities you plan on keeping.

if you plan on having fewer students, then I'm not sure if that's something to necessarily be proud of. I understand that a lot of students go to Southern who shouldn't be in school at all but all that will happen is that the Al Sharptons and SJW's of the world will descend down upon us like locusts, but and/or the state will keep SU but become less educated overall.

Politically speaking it is not realistic to close down universities. There are legislators, mayors, and other politicians that live near each university that you plan on closing down. They will all oppose it.

Link? Because a Google search showing the list of the top nursing programs in the state based on licensure scores and retention rate list Tech, ULL, and NWST as the top 3 on five different sites. ULM's program on this criteria is sandwiched between schools like SUBR, LC, and Grambling.

Everyone can't make it at a Tier One school. And those that do aren't always happy with their degrees.
This is a U.S. cultural issue. We need to quash this idea that everyone needs to go to a university. Many of these jobs stating that they require degrees really do not need them.

We need to fix this cultural issue soon, but I feel that we are too late already.

BRCC has 10,000 students now? I taught a night class there when it was just one building

It's grown a lot. UL-Lafayette should be changed into a community college like that. The few decent programs they offer should be merged with McNeese. What's left is basically community college level anyways.

Of course, the very first thing is that all athletic programs in the state that are not self sustaining need to be shut down immediately. Of course TOPS needs to be there to support good students, not mediocre ones.....but the state also has to refurbish their tax code to ensure businesses (and jobs) actually end up in Louisiana so the best graduates don't continue to leave.

Then....ULM, Tech, and LSU-S should be merged into one with both Grambling and SUNO being completely closed.

We have plenty of classroom and building space. Our problem is the number of teachers keeps getting cut. If one quits, his $60-100k salary does not go to hiring a new teacher for that department. It goes into the university general fund. So instead of hiring a new teacher, we get a new fountain. Then, for the same salary, one of the few teachers has to teach his old classes, or they get closed. They get tired of doing research, getting grants, and teaching, and end up quitting also.

That's why my ME degree path (thermo/fluids) only has 2 full-time professors. Pretty fricking outrageous IMHO

If someone bought that suno property (and we magically kept 100% of the money), we could use the funds to buy unlimited fountains and like three more teachers

One program doesn't make the school necessary. It can be absorbed by another university.

This many times over. Every freakin time these threads are started, people post the one great program at each expendable school.
If these programs are so great, their admin and faculty could reproduce the program at another institution within the state.

Yes. This guy did. It fuels the state's economy to the point that the Louisiana university system is on the verge of collapse? Right. Gotcha.

You are so fricking brainless as to barely be worth a response.

We'll close LSU about 10 minutes before we close Louisiana.

Die in a fricking fire.

Oh my… What a fracking imbecile you are! Grambling would not exist today if it weren't A black historical college. Tech is the only other tier one institution in Louisiana besides LSU...Tech should be the only 4 year university in North Louisiana

This is the big issue? I'm gonna guess most of the votes in the legislature are in SOUTH Louisiana.

Gotta love the Advocate for being shills of JBE. Right on schedule with their coordinated effort to facilitate new tax increases. What a propaganda machine!

Love the opening line "tax payers only pick up 25% of the education tab"! Oh noz! Only 25%. What a tragedy. Guess I should pay all of it, eh?
Heaven forbid the students pay their own way. Wish these frickers were paying my truck note. Be nice if I didnt have to shoulder that expense alone

In Louisiana, this is almost an oxymoron. The corruption, graft and lack of accountability at our HBCUs is atrocious.

JBE has no other step to go. He is only the gov because bobby managed to be disaster and the republicans ran hooker dave.

I think any deal to consolidate universities would get snagged because no school will voluntarily go first when the worst school and second worst get to stay open.

the only way someone might consider it would be getting sucked into the LSU system.

Its going to be more of the same in la as far as higher education. The best option is fixing the state constitution.

FWIW I think JBE is either recalled or a one term gov. If he gets his tax raises like he wants then i see a recall in his future. He should have come in talking about trying to fix the state constitution.

Spot on with everything heartbreakTiger, I agree.

What's unbelievable to me is how Louisiana gave the boot to Mary Landrieu's sorry arse and voted in a Republican and then vote in this fricktard JBE? Then his proposed tax cuts, are you fricking kidding me? F. King Alexander probably knew he was actually making the best decision not only for the football program but for the university by not firing Les considering what JBE is now doing to the university system.

I moved from Louisiana 4 years ago, it isn't the same place it used to be. It is becoming a cesspool of worthless human beings on welfare (and we know what majority the color of them are in Louisiana) and drowned in crime (we also know who rules that category) instead of the great once proud, good hearted and kind Louisiana people we used to have. Katrina ruined Louisiana more than people will ever know by letting all the trash move out N.O. and disperse throughout the entire state. The handouts and welfare continue to increase. It will never be the same. Do yourself a favor and move to Texas, you won't regret the quality of life here.

I love Louisiana and always will but it will never go back to the place I once fondly remember. JBE is one of many who are going to continue giving out handouts and keep destroying this state on the backs of hard working people.

And to the fricking moron who said to close LSU, practically the only reason this state gets national exposure, you should go kill yourself immediately.
