It’s currently 5:47 AM in Caen, Normandie as my group is en route to the shore.

I’m thinking on the great sacrifice as I listen to one of the best pieces John Williams ever composed— Hymn to the Fallen

Thank you all service men and women past and present

Good for you

Pics please I didn't realize it was the 75 anniversary. My two grandfather's served during WW2 none were on the beaches of Normandy though. Both have passed the last one was last year RIP grandpa BIG (that's what we called him).

I was there Monday and it was very crowded. It will be crazy crowded today. There are so many re-enactment people in the city right now

Got a friend and her husband who are over there to see the battlefield sites in Belgium and Northern France. It's their version of a European vacation and it looks awesome.

I probably brushed shoulders with you.

The re-enactment people crack me up. The old cars and motorcycles are cool, but it’s crazy to see grown European men dressed up as American WWII soldiers.

My dad wasn’t involved in the Normandy invasion but was a Army Air Corp wing nut in WWII. Today’s events led me to go back through some of his military things last night.

Flag from his coffin - did not want one single flower on it, just the Stars and Stripes.

His Honorable Discharge Letter from Harry S. Truman.

His Continuing Benefits Letter signed by Gen. Omar Bradley.

A box full of different pins and medals and his old oxygen mask from the bomber he flew in.

Dad passed in 2008 but as I watch the ceremony from Normandy this morning, it brings back great memories and a swell of pride. I’m glad there are still Vets left that can be honored. Miss you, Dad.

My grandfather served with the 66th Infantry Division in northwest France in 1945. He maintained the Howitzers in an artillery battalion.

After the D-Day invasions, about 100,000 Germans would be trapped in northwest France. This is where all the famous u-boat sub pens were. They would be contained there until the end of the war. We have his citation of merit still hanging up.

That’s awesome bro. Visiting Normandy and walking the beaches is on my bucket list. I’ve looked into doing the band of brothers tour but that is ultra expensive.
