Big dollars have big time value. Regardless of the relative percentage of net worth, I'd have a tough time bypassing 30 grand a day unless I had no other choice. Every day's delay is 30 grand you could have given to family / friends or St. Jude or a homeless shelter or your church, etc.

Maybe that was the case - the person had no choice, but 5 months seems like an awful lot of caution. it seems like you could assemble your team and complete the claim process via establishing trusts, etc. in much less time. Maybe there were legit reasons, like TheCatepillar listed. They'd have to be damn legit and specifically require me to delay claiming my prize to do it.
