Just curious, what did your wife do? Did she just get out and run to a nearby neighborhood or did she hide close to the scene?
She ran to the other cars that were stopped in the road. There was an older gentleman and his wife there on the phone with the cops so she stayed back there with them.
She later felt bad for not helping me but said she watched the fight happen and I wasn’t having a problem controlling him so she felt I would’ve wanted her to run away, which was 100% the correct choice imo.

This is good info to help others figure out what they’d do in that situation. Thanks for sharing the specifics.

Absolutely. I'll say it was a million times easier to focus on the threat directly once I knew my wife was safely away from the attacker. Those first few moments when you're not sure what's going on or where everyone is specifically located is nerve racking.

Thanks brother. I'll try to bump the thread if tigerdroppings is still around when the legal part is resolved and hopefully, i'll be reporting to y'all that the perp is gonna take an extended stay at the Louisiana State Penitentiary.

We fought long enough for my wife to get away but I bailed out of the fight once I saw him reaching into his waistband for a weapon.

You handled it well...

about 50 yards from the E Broussard/Kaliste Saloom roundabout.
My grandparents used to live aboot 3.79 miles from there off of Kaliste Saloom, on N. Locksley. I last went there in 1970 so it couldn't have been me, but it kind of makes you think.

I’ll put it this way, it was a side of town that didn’t have many dindu’s and the perp was in fact a dindu. With a long history of violent felonies as well from what I’ve gathered. Guy should’ve never been on the street in the first place.
Uncle Ted said it best in regards to repeat offenders:

Crazy - I am close by and heard nothing about this until you shared your story. We were definitely riding around in the area before midnight with the kids.
Glad you and your wife are ok and they busted this crackhead. Do not need that kinda crap in the area

100%. Today I'm trying to get copies of the police report/case number so I can get in touch with the DA's office and make it known to them that I do not have any plans of letting this go or going away. Guy needs serious time behind bars.

A bunch of bonds, almost one for each charge. He is up to $157,500 total so far. There is no bond listed on the AGGR.FLIGHT FROM AN OFFICER charge.

I'm not super informed of the bond process but I'm assuming having no bond on a crime like agg flight, which is a felony, must mean the judge either hasn't or won't assign a bail amount and ole boy is going to sit in jail until the legal process plays out?

Odds are decent OP would have gotten killed with his own gun. If somebody has the drop on you it's a total crapshot at best how it will play out.
Yes! Even though I carry, I've been preaching this scenario for years.

This is one of those situations where I’d do a lawsuit that’s just under the threshold of requiring a lawyer. Dude ain’t got shite but with a $3,500 verdict you could lien and judgement whatever he owned.
You don't want this dude or his cousins wanting blood on you. Just move on and be happy he's going away for a while.

This guy has multiple felonies and weapons charges over the course of a decade. Why in the hell is this animal on the streets in the first place?
With his rap sheet and these new charges, he isn't getting out for a very long time.

How the hell was there an attempted car jacking he left with your truck! Or was that another offense he did at another time?
Maybe tried to steal the old lady's vehicle as well.

Carjacking with serious injury also has mandatory minimum of 20 years. If not a serious injury the max is 20 and minimum is five.
You need to stay on the ADA to not let him plead it down and push for maximum sentence. You’ll testify about him setting the trap, attacking you, etc. If they have a strong and engaged victim, that will give them great leverage.
Given the mayhem he caused after, they should stack years and put this dude away for most of his natural life.
He beat an old, dying lady up after doing all this. With his priors and being older, he's not getting out I don't think.

Where did this happen? Louisiana? NOLA?
