Scary deal, glad you and your wife are ok.
Not that it matters, did he screw your truck up from the chase?
Miraculously no. Truck is totally fine. My wife and I kinda laughed on the way home because it was like the aftermath of the scene in an action movie where all hell breaks loose and then the characters ride silently in a car after. It was just wild.

I felt horrible for her.

Also I called today and asked why there wasn’t a battery charge for me and apparently it’s baked into the violent nature of the carjacking charge. If he wouldn’t have hit me and just took the truck without threat of violence somehow, it would’ve been a stolen vehicle charge.
Because it’s carjacking, part of that charge apparently includes a violent act so the battery is sort of part of the carjacking charge.

I’ll put it this way, it was a side of town that didn’t have many dindu’s and the perp was in fact a dindu. With a long history of violent felonies as well from what I’ve gathered. Guy should’ve never been on the street in the first place
You should have known better than to stop.

Carjacking with serious injury also has mandatory minimum of 20 years. If not a serious injury the max is 20 and minimum is five.
You need to stay on the ADA to not let him plead it down and push for maximum sentence. You’ll testify about him setting the trap, attacking you, etc. If they have a strong and engaged victim, that will give them great leverage.
Given the mayhem he caused after, they should stack years and put this dude away for most of his natural life.

God bless you for trying to help someone in need, but those truly in need will have few willing to come to their rescue because of the Daniel Penny case. George Soros’ DA’s have destroyed the judicial process. Few are willing to take the risk anymore.

There was a big shooting on the northside the same night that took up the news.

Oh I definitely plan on staying on their arse about it.
Update to the story. Things can get foggy so I’m super grateful for this next part. Turns out a friend of a friend was in that line of cars with his wife and two young kids and saw the entire thing. They were talking today about how crazy it was and he found out it was me he was watching so my friend got us in touch. He cleared up a ton for me.
He said before I arrived, the guy was walking in and out of cars waving his hands almost like a bird. He was yelling and generally acting cracked out. He said it was so eery that when the perp saw us stop, his whole demeanor changed and he walked relatively calmly from behind our field of vision out into where we were. He said he saw the punch and the guy start to engage with me. He said he tried to attack me more but I basically got him in the clinch and smashed his head against the door frame of my truck. He said it was weird at that point because it seemed like I just kind of backed away and gave him space. That was the point when I saw him reach for his waistband so I backed up a bit. That’s when he slid into the drivers side door which was open and slammed it. He then watched me run around to the passenger seat. He said we fought in the cab and then I just seemed to bail out. That was the point where I determined my wife was safe and I didn’t want to risk anything if he did have a weapon so I backed out of the situation. He said the perp then took the truck and jumped the roundabout and tore off down Kaliste Saloom.
I didn’t even remember smashing his head. It all happened so fast.

As far as where it was, the initial confrontation happened about 50 yards from the E Broussard/Kaliste Saloom roundabout
Damn I'm driving there M-F at about 5 AM to go to work. Weird place for him to be. Also pretty heavily trafficked area. Nobody else saw the fight and stopped to help?
Just saw you kind of answered this in the post above.

Nah no one else helped. And look, I’m not trying to sound like a badass here in any way. I was as scared to death as anyone else but I train to fight all the time. The context certainly caused fear considering it was dark and you don’t know your attacker but I understand that most people don’t have a background in hand to hand training. Other people had kids in their vehicles and didn’t want to take the risk. Who knows, maybe in some way, adding more people to the mix would’ve made things worse. I don’t blame people for being in fear, especially because the bad guy clearly wasn’t winning the fight already.
I’ve had a lot of time to chew on it and I think God’s hand was all over this. The guy I talked to said it has shaken he and his wife up because of how easily it could’ve been them and their small children he decided to car jack. God knew this man meant for evil so he sent me instead of a frail person, woman or teen to confront the situation. My wife and I were unharmed and the guy committed more crimes with the carjacking and home invasion, hopefully meaning he’ll get exponentially more time than he would’ve otherwise for just the assault. And I still got my truck back in perfect shape.
God took what the enemy meant for evil and brought about the best possible resolution. I’m safe. My wife is safe. No one else was hurt. I got my vehicle back and the bad guy ended up in cuffs. Praise God.
