Thoughts on gold Rolex GMT with Jubilee / Oyster? Or full gold Bluesy?
I am going to assume we are talking about yellow gold and current references. I like the GMT more as a watch because it does more but unless you travel a lot or track another time zone constantly it isn't really useful but cool none the less.
I generally view the Oyster as the more stealthy bracelet and I think it works better with the less shouty bezels like on the Bruce Wayne. But you are already yelling with a full yellow gold Rolex so I think the Jubilee makes more sense on the GMT. The Bluesy is an has always been a statement piece I find it more attractive than the current bezel offering on the GMT. I would choose the Bluesy over the current bezel offering in yellow gold but I love the warm combination of the brown and black bezel on the current Everose model. So for me I would choose the Bluesy if we are just considering yellow gold but I really love the current Everose model.

I'm struggling with the EXACT same thing...

And yes, I was referring to full yellow gold.

42mm Planet Ocean with the 8500 movement

Posted on 1/4/25 at 5:53 pm to Jim Rockford

Two days on the wrist, initial thoughts:
MSRP is $2500. Factoring in taxes and shipping, I got about a 20% discount from an ebay seller, new and unworn. Transaction went smoothly. Third party authentication was included.
This thing is built like a tank. It's designed for a specific purpose, and aesthetics are secondary. Nevertheless, I've had a few compliments, which is unusual. Most people don't notice the watch you're wearing. The steel bracelet with rubberized center links is a unique look. It also comes in a white dial version, but I went with the black dial because it's a little more under the radar and I already have a white dial watch.
42mm, but wears smaller.
Lume is great. After lights out at 11 PM, it's still visible at 5 AM.
Date magnification window is on the inside, so it doesn't stick up. Crystal is an absurd 4mm thick.
Still early, but accurate so far.
I read a review that said the rubber fittings smell like chocolate, and sure enough they do. There must be some scientific explanation.
As heavy as it is, it's still pretty comfortable. I notice it on my wrist sometimes, but not very often. Microadjust would be a nice feature to have. You may not notice changes in your wrist size during the day with a lighter watch, but with this one you do.
It's not a dive watch, but at 1000 meters water resistance, it could be if it had a rotating bezel, which I kind of wish it did, even though it would completely change the look.
Overall, 9/10 would buy again.

did we miss last friday??
at any rate, not for everyone but this is one of my most beloved watches; DeWitt Academia Chrono. Love how it counts seconds and its one of their more modest models; nothing crazy like the Hour Planet or the models containing a strand of Napoleon's hair.

Damn, that’s a funky watch that I’ve never heard of.
The exact kind of fare I love on a Friday.

i'm not a baller so i dont have 100k to put down on a watch that rotates the Earth on the world's tiniest bicycle chain to provide correct time zones...
...but if i did i might consider it..

Still can't get away from the FXD for daily wfh life. I do wear the Black Bay Pro when traveling for work, otherwise this stays on the wrist. To the point that I'm very close to picking up the Blue MN version.

Yep, I took a picture in the morning and forgot to post.
Today is the IWC Ingenieur the red-headed stepchild of the Gerald Genta trilogy of integrated bracelet sports watches.

It was overcast today and in the office I couldn't get any angle that showed the true dial color which is a lighter more aqua color which is less green and a little more aqua but at least the light showed off the dial texture.

I am a big fan partly because I see beige as a color choice vs being the watch nerd's dirty word: fuxtina. I do agree I would prefer a triangle at 12 instead of the 24 and if I get one I would likely wear it on a zero pass strap but I think it is great looking. I am not a huge fan of the added thickness of even a single pass strap and those Tudor straps are beefy as it is but they are high quality.
Picture for reference

Up early today for a conference call with far-flung regions of the world from home, I worked Monday so I am taking the rest of the day off.
5168 today. I pulled at the cheap but yet howdy towdy inspection gloves. No natural light or light box to do it justice but here she is.
As an aside I have been thinking about occasionally doing a "Tuesday Tales from the Beater Box". I have a pile of rotating very inexpensive watches that I have built, modded or sometimes just bought. Anyone interested in showing off their beaters? I think some of mine are the most interesting of the bunch especially when price is considered. Right now I am waiting on the case to build a watch around this Fordite dial:

Nice Zenith CAD, love the lume on that watch.
Obtuse killing it (as always) with the GG themed days two Fridays in a row.
I have something special coming, but its going to be a few months and not in precious metal like I was thinking the next thing I buy was gonna be.
Today it is one of my most worn daily work watches. Many call it boring, but its is definitely boring done exceptionally well with pretty much perfect proportions for a round watch and outstanding legibility at a quick glance.
