FYI if you want one you can buy it online straight from Harrod's.

Nice, that’s good intel. It looks like you can find one second hand for a bit cheaper as well

116400 Z Blue Milgauss for today. This is one of my favorite watches to wear and love the whimsy of the orange Thunder Bolt seconds hand.

The 6541 is one of my grails but like with most watches I desire but put off buying the prices have gone stratospheric. I love the texture on the honeycomb dial. My choice would be a well-worn example with a tropical dial like in the last picture.

I realized the picture of the tropical dial didn't post so here is another one

Sad to see NTH going under. I think this continues to happen over the next several years in the micro-brand space. It's like the craft beer phase, just too diluted for everyone to be successful.

I always thought Chris had the formula to succeed and he made a lot of watches. But as he learned with Lew and Huey people don't like (too) different at the price point. That means all the micro's and Ali shops end up doing very similar watches and someone is always timing prices to be the value leader and it makes like tough.

I know Chris (aka DocVail) rubbed some people wrong with his brashness but since starting NTH he made a lot of interesting watches. Taking details from multiple watches and manufacturers and usually making an interesting cohesive watch. He tried to price his watches in order to make a living and allow him to give real customer service and provide parts support. I guess people just didn't recognize or appreciate the effort.

Sad to see him shutdown.

OK now that your toe is in time to jump, the water is fine. Spending that money on watches is better than some family trip to Japan.

Maybe I’ll try and steal my BIL’s James Cameron Deep Blue.

I thought I struck it rich today. For $20, I bought a box of watches.

And of course, the watch that made my heart stop for a second

I’ll do decent on the Helbros and Henri Sandoz

I’ll give you $20 for the Breitling.

You’ve already broken even, the rest is lagniappe.

Knew it was fake but not broken.

Guess that explains why there’s no crown.

This one looks like it has a Submariner bezel insert instead of the one unique to the Milgauss.

Today's watch is from the brand known as "the watchmaker's watch" Jaeger-LeCoultre. This Master Control Date is from 2003, a gift from my wife, and is reference 140.8.9. It features a 37 mm case diameter in SS with a date complication at the 3 o'clock postition. The Dauphine hands have a thin sliver of lume in the center portion and there are small modestly sized lume dots over each of the triangular dial indices. The center seconds hand is an attractive blued steel. There are small Arabic numerals at the 6, 9 and 12 positions. The Dial is simply signed with the JLC logo and wordmark in the upper half of the dial and a single line of text reading "Automatique" in the lower half, emphasizing the marque's Gallic influence on its Swiss heritage.

The is the older version of the watch as evidinced by the smaller case diameter and a solid case back with a center gold medallion detailing the series it belongs to, the 1000 hours of testing and the serial number instead of the sapphire back of the current iteration. Humble, yet very versatile for a non-sports watch, this watch slips quite easily under a shirt cuff, but looks equally at home in short sleeves in a more casual setting.

Love the strap.

Going to break the ‘most times posting the same watch in one thread’ record.

Is that the Ikarus? I had the white dial version of that watch quite a long time ago. Nice and simple, eminently legible just wore a little big for me. I think my brother still has his.

Yes. Big dial for sure. The rhodium might be a touch more subtle than the white.

NTH Nacken Renegade (date). My newest one in the stable. Still mourning the loss of the brand.
