While the Cricket isn't cheap it isn't outrageous considering you get a manufacture alarm movement. Compare that to the JLC Memovox where the most affordable version of their alarm movement in a watch is ~3 times as much.
While the closed-case versions produce a louder alarm I like the display back to see the unique movement. It has a double barrel movement with a rocker (shown below by the arrow). The mainspring is wound as you wind clockwise and when you wind counterclockwise the rocker shifts to engage the alarm spring.
I mentioned it is considered a president's watch. The press corp gave Truman one and he often wore it. They continued to gift them to presidents at least through Ford. LBJ liked the Cricket so much he was known to give them as gifts, more than 200 apparently.
IMO you get a historical watch with an unusual complication and powered by an in-house movement for roughly the price of a Black Bay so the value just depends on what lens you use to examine it.

Been mostly the Rolex 126610LN Sub Date this week.
Was not a fan for a long time due to how ubiquitous and monotone it was, but there is something truly beautiful about it's simplicity, near flawless execution, and timelessness. Picked one up a few months ago and it has only grown on me more.

Owes its heritage to Steve McQueen Expl II 1655, but with an unmistakably Tudor stamp. Great watch you have there. I wonder if future iterations will use the new BB58 GMT case to slim it down a bit?

My Dad/pawpaw didnt ever wear watches. I got into watches about 5 years ago and I am very happy with my 6 piece collection now after buying and selling many different watches over that time. I actually purchased this watch broken from poshmark and had it repaired. I really love vintage pieces both for the history and the affordability.
So about this watch:
Ref 168.045
This is one of the first watches ever with an integrated bracelet. First time definitely for Omega, however some other brands like to claim they had the first integrated bracelet. The constellation line around this time became of of the first mass produced chronometer certified watches.
It is 18k gold filled two tone. It has the Geneva Observatory logo on the case back. Here is a picture of the caseback on the stainless steel version.
It has an automatic calibre 751 movement in it. I had to have the date wheel mechanism repaired when I purchased it as it has a unique hammer style mechanism to change the date. So I have to pull the crown all the way out and push it back in to change the date instead of turning the crown. Its one of the lightest and most comfortable watches I own and I forget it is on.
Very happy to hand this and all my other watches down to my son one day.

I would suspect that to be the case in the future. To be fair about 1.5mm of the watch is the boxed crystal, which I don't even consider when thinking about true thickness.

Also to note, I kind of shite on the Pelagos earlier in this thread because I tried to buy it and could never commit, but then I saw the black one this week. All prior visits all I could see and feel were the blue variant.

Is it Friday again? This week has flown by.
Panerai 42mm Radiomir 1940 0512 with the sandwich dial.
It is a bitch to take a picture of, all the various angles of polished steel and the curved crystal really begs for a light box.

Had a chance to buy one of these but balked. I've got two watches I am looking at on Saturday to purchase one is a Rolex 18048 that was owned by Ric Flair himself and has the supporting paperwork/documentation and the other is a 17013 which is something I have wanted for a very long time but kept putting on the back burner.

I love a DayDate, the 48 is diamond bezel version of the YG DD, single quickset, correct? 18038/18238 to me are so classic, great watches.
I've though about an Oyster Quartz (speaking of integrated bracelets as mentioned a few posts ago), but have never had one pass through my hands. That TT 17013 w/champagne dial is an excellent one for that reference. Have a friend that has the blue dial version.

That white Omega AT dial looks excellent. May have to play around with that app.
