Midland is a perfect example of a place NO ONE wants to live in but has a lot of jobs. You have to pay people very well to move there for work
My nephew is out there. Moved there about 8 months ago. He's working his arse off in the business and the company is compensating him well, but he hates Midland.

Midland, home of several jokes from bust cycles past:

How do you get a Texas oil millionaire? get a Texas oil billionaire and wait a week.

How many Texas oil millionaires can fit in the back of a pickup truck? Four, you have to leave room for the lawnmowers and weed eaters.

Great name for a great country band. Midland.

There's an alt metal band called Fair to Midland.
The name is a play on words for "fair to middling," a nice summary of the town.

Righands will go out and buy the high end trucks etc, only for everything to get repossessed after mass layoffs when production slows. Brutal cyclical economy out there

Hate to break it to you but a large number of Americans are living beyond their means. 96 month car notes and $500k starter homes means many Americans are over-leveraged.

oil jobs have to pay high or else no one would take on the risk of losing their job every 3 years

Moved here from Baton Rouge 21 years ago. Completely different place from when I first got here. Rent and housing prices are insane for such a desolate area. Nothing to do. It hasn’t rained in 8 months. There are some good people here. Excellent Mexican food and 2 HEBs. Bass Pro just announced they’ll be here next year. Article seems misleading. Nothing has really changed around here. Can’t find good help anywhere. Lots of people with money so that their kids don’t need jobs while in high school. Been stuck here a while. Hoping to head somewhere with some water and trees soon.
