Ahhh the "teachers get four months off" myth.

Not going to get into a debate with you. I have friends and family who teach in several states. Just going by what they tell me from first-hand experience.

1 week in May
4 weeks in June
4 weeks in July
2 weeks in August
1 week for thanksgiving
2 week for Christmas/New Year
1 week for spring break
All other state/federal holidays

That brings my math to a minimum of 15 weeks or about 4 months, unless you can tell me differently.

how so? specifics

my wife also teaches in a “good” school district outside of Houston. Has for over a decade and has across 3 school districts and she still loves her job.

Mingo isn’t wrong about the pay. They all make $60k+ and with HISD struggling to obtain and keep teachers they were offering $75k+ this past summer. I know of 2 of her teacher friends who jumped on the opportunity. He’s also correct about the assload of holidays and breaks they get. It’s at or near 4 months of the year.

Now, if you’re talking about the endless testing. The ISD’s being really sneaky about unloading group home kids into schools without notifying parents, teachers, etc. Or how there’s definitely a lot of non certified teachers who on paper are certified. Or the ridiculous amount of paperwork and training that is forced on them. Sure, that’s something to complain about.

I'm not in Texas but my wife is a teacher and gets about that much off. It only takes being back at school for 2 or 3 days after a break before her and her teacher friends are complaining about not having time off. She spends about 2 days making lesson plans and decorating her room on her own time.

You realize there are entire towns in Texas that are completely Catholic?

The best river in Texas is west of this line.
Yall are missing out.
At this point west Texas is the “real Texas” and the rest of Texas is just another eastern state.

Texas hasn’t voted blue in almost 50 years, dumbass.

Most of the suburban schools are still pretty good, with cheap houses, you will just have to make sure your kids are in AP classes and watch who they hang with.
Still better than a typical Louisiana public school outside of the northside.

Starting salaries for police officers in Dallas is $75,000. In Seattle the starting salaries for police officers is $103,000. In San Jose it’s $110,000 and tops out at $185,000 for veteran patrol officers. Salaries for tech workers in Seattle and Silicon Valley are also higher than those in Austin and Dallas.

Of course, Texas has a lower cost of living.

They have good high school football and its a strong state for college football.

The school system seems to be decent.

There is a big different between.. lets say Austin, Texas and Dallas, Texas. I don't think its overrated, I would live there before I would live in a lot of other places around the country.

I know this, its infrastructure is a lot better than Louisiana. If you are traveling west on I-10 starting somewhere in Louisiana you don't even need a sign to tell you that you are now in Texas you can tell because the road instinatly gets better.

Way higher. There is no point in even bringing this up.
Seattle is actually a pretty cool city. Not sure about living there. And the COL just makes it a hell no

Seattle is crazy nice in the summer, and Washington is a beautiful state. But the politics are bad (and that is generally way overstated on this site, but it’s actually insane there), the sun doesn’t come out for 4 months a year, and it’s expensive AF.

I go to Seattle 3 or 4 times a year for work. Love going in the summer, hate going from late October through April

None of them have any identity. They’re just huge, heavily sprawled suburbs with no historical appeal.
