We have only been into Houston once since living here. Been here since September. I’m not exactly certain how long it takes. It didn’t seem to be very bad.
We rarely leave the bubble to do anything in Houston since there really isn't much reason to leave outside of Astros games.

Everyone we have come across, mostly through kids activities has been really welcoming. Nashville area people are nice but it takes a while for them to warm up to you. And they aren’t particularly fun either. It’s like hanging out with a bunch of Kirk Cousins types.
Same experience here with the youth sports experience and even the random people that I have talked with out at bars and social gatherings were all very pleasant (even LSU fans when I was wearing Bama gear.)

Texas needs countries like the UAE and Saudi Arabia; their economy massively relies on those nations.
You are so full of shite.
The state’s largest market was Mexico. Texas exported $123.5 billion in goods to Mexico in 2024, representing 27 percent of the state’s total goods exports.
Mexico was followed by Canada ($36.6 billion), Netherlands ($32.5 billion), South Korea ($23.6 billion), and China ($22.5 billion).
Texas’s exports to major world areas included:
2024 Value
APEC
$273.4 billion
Asia
$122.4 billion
European Union
$81.5 billion
South/Central America and Caribbean
$56.3 billion
Sub-Saharan Africa
$6.3 billion
51 percent of Texas’s goods exports ($231.6 billion) in 2024 went to current FTA partners.
Suck it liar

Visiting Ohio made me feel like I was dropped off in 1975 and I'm from BR. I'm the first to agree BR is a shithole so I'll keep my mouth shut about Texas. You should likely do the same.

I like nothing better than trashing Texas because, quite frankly, it is damned easy to do and it gets Texans, a notoriously overly emotional group, all kinds of bent out of shape. That said Texas is fantastic. East texas anyway....from about I-35 from Oklahoma to San Antonio and then whatever the frick US highway to MacAllen. That line extends to about Fredericksburg and includes the Hill Country for sure. The rest of Texas is pretty much New Mexico without the charm but the hill country to Louisiana is great....in fact East Texas would be one of the best areas on earth if it weren't for there being so damned many Texans in the area...its like a breeding ground for the damned things, you can't sling a dead armadillo without it bouncing off a damned Texan. Again - just kidding - Texans are good people even if they are overly emotional.

accurate statement
lived in or worked in TX for over 40 years, it's a good enough place to work and raise a family, can't stand the 10 month summers and about 45-50 straight days of 100 plus degree temps without a cloud in the sky July-Augusts though, may keep a place here when I finally hang it up but definitely not staying here full time

September is a bad month too for temps but a pool is a great investment for those months of extreme heat. I use mine nearly every day after work in the summer listening to Yacht Rock while sipping a Texas Ranch Water.

that's what I call coping with the elements

I’ll say this…Shiner Bock, which is probably the most underrated and under appreciated beer in the history of ever, tastes a lot better on these warm Texas days.
And Texas knows how to do bars the right way. Kirby’s is amazing and the only thing that could make it better is if kids were allowed. But there are enough similar places that make up for it.

Most of the TX criticisms are true, but it's still not overrated.

I am sure you are aware already but in case anyone else in interested in those sort of places, Deacon Baldy's and Moonshine Deck are both good choices. Deacon Baldy's has a food truck with some damn good brisket and their selection of beer isn't that snobby.

The best part of this thread is the pro-Texas faction using comparisons with one of the worst if not the worst state in the union, to argue positives about Texas
Nearly any meal is palatable when contrasted with a shite sandwich.

Don’t underestimate Texas pride. They honestly think Texas is the best thing in the world and that everything else non-Texas wise is inferior.

You want so badly for this to be true. Very odd

One thing I don’t get is some of them act like the schools are almost universally great, like it’s Massachusetts or something. There are plenty of suburbs of DFW (and Houston, I’m sure) that are no go zones. Texas as a whole has bad public schools.
Yes, if you can afford a 600k-1MM house your kid can go to a good school, who knew?

Yep and you are correct Houston suburbs too.
My daughter is a teacher in a "good" district in a Houston burb.
Texas does not treat teachers well.
Move to Texas for other things if you want to but not the schools.

Lol why would I want it to be true? It’s a fact.
Do you live in Brooklyn like your bio says or are you a proud rootin’-tootin’ Texan?

Hill Country is the only area I could tolerate if I moved to Texas.
Posted on 5/5/25 at 10:52 am to BuckeyeWarrior
You live/move to the big cities in Texas, like Houston, to make money. That's it. The emotional Texan response is because deep down they all know there is no other reason to be living in that concrete, urban sprawl hell-hole.
Money is the soul of Texas.
There are beautiful parts of Texas but it's not found in any of their big cities. Austin use a bit of a soul but the money hungry tech players are working overtime to kill what made it special/different from other tx cities.
The only really good food in Texas comes from it's immigrant class. The bbq is overrated. And their politicians are as corrupt as Louisiana , they just wear nicer suits.
