Out of the back, you mean?

The rearview mirror is a camera.

The tri-motor version has a 500mi range and that's while towing. Saw a pic from inside one the other day that showed it had 620mi range left. If it actually has that long a range unloaded it will be hugely popular. Coupled with a 14k towing capacity, it's a pretty solid truck. I put my deposit down on one. It's ugly but some of the renders i've seen with other paint schemes are pretty cool looking.

Why couldn’t they just make it look like a normal truck.

Even Tesla sedans and crossovers look somewhat normal.

I think I read where Musk said that there are already trucks out there that look like traditional trucks for sell. He wanted something completely different. A reimagining off what a truck could be.

Also, I put my hundred down. I can understand if someone doesn’t like the design but the more I see it the more I love it. 2022 is a ways off. I’m sure there will be soon refinement to the design over time.

This is just the first step in reimagining the styling of the automobile. For 100 years the packaging of an ICE powertrain has been a major constraint to style. With an EV powertrain, styling constraints have been reduced significantly. As EVs take over we are going to see some significant departures, it will be interesting to see what is embraced and what is rejected by consumers.

Also, you mentioned people will just buy it for style points but on the flip side, for those who truly need the functionality of the truck and its features for the normal work they do around town, for the same price the Tesla will give you more than its competitor.

Not really.

I said that the first couple of days when it came out. I watched a video on the truck from MKBHD(one of the most popular tech Youtuber guys) and what he said made sense.

If you're trying to steal business from, say, Ford and the F150 and how engrained those trucks are in American society, making a truck that looks similar to their product isn't going to get it done. He said it a lot better than I did, but it made sense and I tend to agree.

It's still a bold move and risk, certainly. But I understand the sentiment behind it a bit better now.

How so?

Any article/comparison you read shows the Tesla specs are clearly beating the similarly priced competitors, rather easily too.

Based solely on specs, what trucks at similar pricepoints are beating the Tesla?

Maybe it's not subsidized, but those sun-powered battry's that "built" Tesla didn't make themselves and a free market didn't either. Even the govt tit lovers at the LA Times admit Musk would be nowhere without subsidies. Also here's another article if you care: Tesla subsidies.

All are subsidized. All American car manufacturers, oil companies, solar, wind etc...you name it they are and always have been government subsidized in one way shape or form.
