Much like electricty in 1880, I think we are 50 years away from it being practical.

I can agree with that. Make it 25 years though.

I think we’re 5 years away from a completely autonomous vehicle. I mean completely automated door to door.

In 15 to 20 years, I expect autonomous vehicles to be the default car purchase option. I think the very concept of car ownership will cease to exist in about 2 decades. It’s imminent.

“The very idea of car ownership will cease to exist “. I have been reading up a lot about this because I find it fascinating. I don’t understand the concept. How am I going to pull my boat? Every time I need to run a quick errand I have to call a car? What about when I am doing yard work and I need a truck to pile limbs, etc in and haul to the burn pile? I am doing a project and need more lumber quickly, how am I going to get it? I want to go to the camp and need my 4wd truck all weekend?

And just the whole feeling of freedom you feel on an open road.

Anyone who doesn’t want full control at all times is an idiot and needs to removed from the gene pool

There is much less traffic in the air than on the roads, sport. Compare road traffic at rush hour to the local airport at peak times. If the aircraft is off course by 10 feet, no biggie. Off by 10 feet on a roadway, you go into a barrier and die.

Exactly. Driverless cars are dependent on consistent pavement / roadway conditions in order to maximize safety.

Is the fire from the car that it hit? I can't make it out.

WOW a lot of deep ignorance in this thread.

Anyone post yet how many people died in cars without autopilot?

Anyone compare the incidence of fatal accidents to cars without autopilot?

I use autosteer everyday with zero problems...it does what it is designed to do perfectly......it keeps you in a well marked lane

it does not avoid obstacles....it does not guess where unmarked lanes are etc etc

People crash their cars and die many times every day in this country. Makes zero sense to point out the brand of car or the features it has unless they actually played a roll in the accident.
