I'm interested in how much of an uptick you see on home utility costs with the charger
At worst, most people see an increase in the electric bill that is no more than a third of what they paid for gas.
Charging at home is cheaper than the super charging stations, but even there, I paid a little over $5 to add 65% to my battery.

I probably see 40-50 a day driving to and from work. They're amazing vehicles from everyone I talk to with one. Definitely will be my next vehicle in a couple years.

If EVs are to make up a significant portion of US vehicles in the future, I guarantee you electricity will cost more than that

The Wall Street Journal had a video on Tesla cars the other day. Reporters across the world drove one for few months and then reported. Several of them reported long trips are pain because of lack of charging stations and charging time.
One mentioned something that I had not thought of and that was that running things like the air conditioner and driving fast dramatically reduces the range.
I have been wanting one of the S models for a couple of years now. I think it would be fine for most of my days driving but I do occasionally have unplanned trips. I also concerned about the cost of body work and things like windshields.
Owners can you tell me more?

So maybe I’ll buy a gas powered car in 10-15 years
I don’t know what to tell you man. The guy asked me what my electricity costs are today. I don’t have a crystal ball.

You don’t have to tell me anything, just noting that prices will go up as more people are charging cars, sorry ?

The car automatically plots your trip to include the charging stops and more are being added all the time, mostly in areas you would have things to do or eat.

Apologies if I misinterpreted your post. Some people in this thread seem to be trying to engage in some weird “team gas vs team electric” debate. I thought that’s what you were trying to do. I’ve got no interest in that.

How long would y’all guess it is before EVs make up the majority of the vehicles on the road?
Genuinely curious. Probably faster than most think.

Not mutually exclusive. Elon is the only one willing to kill a few extra people a year while he works the bugs out.

Well the demand is low. When everyone has them them, then the electric companies will start charging at peak rate....
I have a co-worker that lives in Colorado and has already experienced this.
I am not sure we even have the grid to support it.

I got an Model 3 in December and love the car. Based upon her driving habits, it would be perfect. I would not recommend for someone who travels more than 200 miles per day. So 80-90% of the population will be fine.
Don’t buy the Tesla Charger - $500.
A local electrician installed a 14-50 240V outlet for me for $300 and I just plug in the mobile adapter. I had to run the cable about 50’ which was half the cost. If you are closer, it could be less.
If you are more than 100’ from you panel, buy the Tesla charger.
It will not be my last Tesla.

Coworker owns a model 3. Loves it. His only issue is lack of technicians equipped to work on repairs. Some jackass backed into him in a parking garage and it’s taken probably 9 months for someone to repair the sensors and whatnot in the back bumper area. No major structural damage, just the sensors messing up his auto drive capabilities.

Do you know what kind of miles/hour of charging that gives you vs the Tesla charger? Is it about the same?
