I expected them to fall short because Musk sets aggressive targets. There was inevitably going to be some stuff to figure out early on, but once they get the gigafactories for the Model 3's fine tuned, they will be putting out cars at a very fast rate, mostly automated.

One quarter is "a while"? What are you talking about?id give them a year to figure things out honestly. Most first runs at production have problems, and that goes for just about any car. Tesla is trying to change the way cars are made. It won't happen in a month or two.

They have been missing production numbers for a couple of years. This was the second quarter in a row.

JD Power IS the authority because they solely depend on what the customer says. The do it very scientifically and considered the gold standard by the industry.

The S was released in 2012, it's only 5 years later.
I could be wrong, but I'm also fairly certain that way back even when the S was just released, Musk let it be known that it was his plan to hold back on the more affordable option.
So even if they were "beat" it seems to be that they were not really trying to be the 1st to the market with the affordable EV, no?
