I mean, I guess, it is just scary to think there's a significant, determined group who wants only to destroy the world because that is how they envision their path to enlightenment. In their mind, there is no answer besides mutual destruction and that is different than terrorist groups from the past. Additionally, the more the movement grows, the more impossible it becomes to entirely wipe it out. I don't know, this will likely come and go and replaced by another group but it just has a different feel, one that causes me more alarm for some reason...

You. Happened on the way to work. In stung the hell out of me. I turned around to go home and get some benadryl. By the time I got home, I got to see the planes go into the towers. What I was listening to on the radio sounded like a Cessna had bumped into one of the towers. The images on the screen painted a completely different picture. I'm not diminishing what that was. But taking out icons is less traffic or important than taking out hundreds of average citizens going about an average day.

Not to mention over a million dead in the resulting wars, literally trillions of dollars added to our national debt and a huge loss of freedom.

When put this way, the terrorist not only "won" on 9/11, but also "won" due to our response...

Not to mention the attack on Beirut was essentially an attack on Hezbollah. So kinda hard to get behind them and that.

Hezbollah has been supporting Assad in Syria against ISIS

Logic would tell us that the numbers involved would be significantly more than 5 and that death is the final mission.. Scary to think that more is probably on its way.. The going out guns a blazing will be grizzly if this has gone to plan to this point

significantly

Depends on what your definition is of that.

Mumbai attacks only had 9 attackers.

There are certainly a shitload of sympathizers sleeping in Paris tonight though

The problem there is that they hide behind normal people, and when you kill the normal people, more join the jihadists. You can't tell the normal people to leave because the jihadists will just leave indiscretely with them.

There really is no winning it without killing tens of thousands of innocent people

Significantly as in upwards of 15-20.. This would include drivers, spotters and those involved in both the assaults and suicide bombings..

ETA: seems like most if not all were equipped with suicide vests.. This could mean that all are accounted for but I still haven't read a concise timeline with a map to really understand how it all unfolded

Well, look who started ISIS. Zarqawi was a nutjob who recruited really dumb people. Even AL Queda wanted him out because he was so crazy. Most of these guys are completely illiterate and don't know anything about the world other than the propaganda they're given. They trust Bagdadi and what he says 100% because they know no different.

Make no mistake about it though, they want Armageddon to happen in Dabiq ASAP.

Of course, I'm sure it will move around.

I wouldn't be surprised if 8 is close to the number.

As I mentioned, the similar Mumbai attacks killed 160ish using 9 attackers

Basically, they could have used more, but it's scary enough that less than 10 can cause a lot of damage. And as we know on 9/11, 19 killed 3,000.

I get it, and I think what should scare everyone the most is that they've improved their "hook," for those ignorant people. Now they're recruiting using blanket salvation as the lure. It is no longer just the western infidel, they have graduated to poking and prodding every race, country, and creed until they get what they want.

To me, that seems an easier sell to the ignorant, wayward, soul they needed before and that is what makes this different from causes past...

Do you not understand that they took out THOUSANDS of average citizens on an average day? Who do you think was in the towers and the planes? Is there anything more average about a day than sitting at your desk or being on a business flight? I'm not trying to be a dick but how old were you when 9/11 happened?
