Tennessee State University waives ACT requirement due to Covid...

Real ballsy move for a school whose average student has an 18 on the ACT and a 2.86 in High School.

Lots of schools are doing this. Everywhere. Mostly because many seniors have not taken it yet and can’t take it. I realize that it looks like they’re accepting anyone, but it’s not that simple. First, schools pretty much accept anyone anyway. Government backed loans is free money to a university. Basically, this doesn’t change as much as you think.

Seems like any senior that hasn’t taken the ACT prior to the pandemic really isn’t that serious about attending college in the Fall of 2020. I applaud the school for accommodating students, but those students without a score by now are more than likely not going to be good students.

Schools waiving entrance exams like the ACT, SAT, and even the GRE in favor of looking at the student's full application has been going on for awhile now.

This...Most competitive schools were well past their application deadline by the time this whole thing started. My point was if half your students average below an 18, does it matter?

Some schools have extended deadlines. But you’re right. Not the competitive ones that already had their new class filled.

And I disagree with that completely. They should all be looked at, but standardized tests are absolutely a great way to gauge intelligence.

You should have applied and been accepted before this started. I mean school is over next week for a lot of places. People who need this waived would be doing 2 year or not going to college anyway.

Actually, they (ACT and SAT) don't. They have validity issues, especially when it comes to content validity and consistent administration.

As an absolute predictor of college success they are lacking. But if you cannot manage certain minimums like a 20 you probably should go the JUCO route first and prove yourself.
