I don't know the attorney who represents them but the last thing I would do is let them identify themselves on national television.
I can tell you I would not be advising them like this guy did.
I just watched the actual interview. They went to this guy because they didn't know what to do, but figured they needed an accountant and a lawyer. This fricking idiot lawyer and his daughter, who is a reporter, are fans of Today, so he advises them not to go to straight to the lottery office or keep quiet, but rather, to fly to New York with the ticket and go on national tv with him and his daughter. What. The. frick.
These people are already being taken advantage of by their lawyer and his daughter.

In Louisiana it wouldnt matter if you got a lawyer to claim the prize for you, you have to give your name to claim a prize that big and the lottery corporation makes it public record.
Basically there is no way to remain anonymous in Louisiana if you win and want to claim your prize.
Everything this guy just said? All wrong. Look up past winners from Louisiana. More than a few trusts and LLCs have claimed prizes. The trust name has to be disclosed but trust documents are not public. So, yeah sure, the GMM Trust won the lottery but the beneficiary to that trust remains anonymous.

Sometimes I get insecure that I'm not great at my job... This guy makes me feel better.

Oh I agree, and for the record Im not saying theyre in danger, they would have just become instant celebrities had they won the 1.5B by themselves. Now theyre just lucky and rich.

These people said they want to stay in their home, in their town of 6,000 people. You think their neighbors are going to forget in a week? Sure they can move to Nashville or wherever to blend in but this was a truly dumb move.

No, but those people would remember whether the prize was $50 million or $5000 billion. Going on national TV isn't changing anything.

I dont know man, I mean Honey Boo Boo is a celebrity. Im not saying they wouldve been invited to the Oscars, but they would have most certainly had D list stardom instantaneously.

Multiple season of being on TV and being the butt of many jokes in many different forms of media.

No, they wouldn't. Outside of people that already knew who they were and could then associate them specifically with their new found wealth, no one will remember these people.

If they're making themselves public anyway, it was stupid to go on Today before claiming it at the lottery office.
Especially based on the legal precedent of "my lawyer's daughter is a big fan of the show!"

Well we'll never know now.

Without googling, name some of the big money Powerball winners.
You can't? Now we know.

Why is the USA getting so damn fat?
USA's fatness problem is fricking embarrassing. The average person is fat. Everyone I work with is fat. Think about that for a second.

I'll take the fat one, Reese Bolton style.
One of the underrated lines in the books- Her father told me he would pay me the weight of whichever of his ugly daughters I chose in silver.
So I chose the fattest one.

That's not the point. You may not be able to. I may not be able to. But people that know them and/or live nearby, etc can.
Do you really think it is a good idea to go on national television to announce you won, with the ticket in your shirt pocket, before actually claiming the prize?

I've already said as much. Are you just choosing to not read my posts?
Those people will have known regardless of the TV appearance and the size of the prize.

I don't think it will matter too much. He's likely signed the back of the ticket already, and now everyone knows it was his. Good luck trying to steal it.

What if they lost it anywhere in between the lotto office and wherever they were?
