Im saying if you go from no one to a Billionaire winning the biggest jackpot of all time, maybe you dont want all the publicity. If you win a 500 million dollar jackpot you're now one of a couple dozen to do that. There isnt as much notoriety.

You wouldn't remember these peoples name in a week (and I'm being very generous giving you credit for remembering them for 7 days) regardless of whether they won it by themselves or split it.

Half a billion dollars is an absurd amount of money to just win.

The leeches that are going to hound these people for money will would be doing it whether they went on TODAY or not.

How do Ryno and Chicken come up with the same joke, but Ryno gets 2 downvotes while Chicken gets 3 ups and 1 down? And Chicken's was later than Ryno's.

This is pretty funny when you think about all the people here who said they'd get a lawyer to represent them and claim the prize so no one would ever know who they were

In Louisiana it wouldnt matter if you got a lawyer to claim the prize for you, you have to give your name to claim a prize that big and the lottery corporation makes it public record.
Basically there is no way to remain anonymous in Louisiana if you win and want to claim your prize.

I find the lawyer that advised them to go on national TV to be a moron

Wouldn't it make more sense to go to the Lottery office first before advertising to national audience that you carry a winning powerball ticket around in your pocket?

In Louisiana, a trust can claim the prize. It has been done before.

Well, where these people live:

That's true, but Matt Lauer (sp) is a douche.

Very true

Side topic, I wonder who the downvoter is in this thread I've always wondered what makes someone decide to downvote every post in a thread.

Probably Matt Lauer while he's waiting on his Rogaine to work.

I honestly was thinking yesterday of what I would do if I was called to be these people's attorney.

I'd probably file a petition based on that Oregon case that they claim their winnings anonymously out of fear of negative repercussions.

I don't know the attorney who represents them but the last thing I would do is let them identify themselves on national television.

I would just take the money and not worry about it. Why are you so scared for people to find out. I think you can afford some security at this point and hopefully are enough of an adult to have the capability to tell any circling vultures to frick off.
