I read a lot about this place last year when I discovered it. I kept it on my weather app, and they legitimately have temperatures well below 0 for 4-5 months a year.

They have to keep their cars running non stop during the heart of winter. They won't restart if they shut off.

There is an issue with alcoholism, as you might expect. I'd be drunk too if it was dark 21 hours a day.

The temperature might have reached a low of -89, but they average -58, which to me sounds a lot worse than one crazy low.

To those questioning the thermostat's range, their record high is 94 in July. Temperatures can be consistently in the 80s, but their summers are mostly in the 60s and 70s.

I think the area is important for diamond mining in Russia.

I wonder what the average lifespan is for a permanent resident of places like that? That has to be a hard arse life, I would think you would be doing good to make to 50.

Spent 3 weeks in Chita, Siberia. It's close to the Mongolian border/ Gobi desert, so its semi- arid climate. Sunny most days, but mornings would range -30 to -40, warming to 0-10 each day. I got a kick out of watching dudes crawl under their shite box cars with blow tourches to warm them up to start!
