The day that JFK was shot*, Walt Disney was in Orlando looking at the land that ultimately was turned into Disney World.

(He was shot by somewhere between 1 and 7 people, placed in TSBD and/or around Dealey Plaza, following the instructions of several Fed. agencies, a handful of world leaders, various crime syndicates and/or one loser dude.)

But Alaska is not commonly included in the “continental” United States.
It's not part of the "contiguous" United States, but it absolutely is the "continental" US (that only excludes Hawaii). It's part of the main body of the continent of North America.

Actually, I undersold it. A good chunk of Tennessee is closer to Canada than Memphis. I was thinking Toronto which is what is almost as close to the eastern tip as the eastern tip is to Memphis.

The contact patch of a locomotive is about the size of a dime per wheel.

210 tons on 12 dimes for example.

The Amazon logo has the arrow that starts at A and points to Z meaning it has everything from A to Z.

The majority of logos use Sans Serif font.

Im sure everyone knows about the Arrow in FedEx.

The Adidas logo's three stripes is actually meant to be a mountain that represents challenge. As in climbing a mountain with 3 different levels.

The dominos logo with 3 dots represents the first 3 dominos that opened. The owner planned to add a dot every time a new one opened, but I think when it became a franchise and there started to be a lot of them, they went back to the original 3 dot logo.

The founder of twitter, who is from Boston, came up with the bird logo inspired by his favorite basketball player.

Firstly, I’m not here to win or lose, I’m here to learn. I love maps and love finding stuff like this. Because of this I figured out that Iceland and Russia are almost the same distance away from the, we’ll let’s call it the lower 48, ha!

Secondly, by including “continental” you were clearly trying to throw people off because it’s not like Hawaii is close to anything. So why exclude them just to confuse people.

Thirdly, there are multiple references that both include and exclude Alaska as being part of the common use of “Continental” US.

So at best, you’re partially right on a technicality, and at worst, you’re trying to dupe people with wordplay.

In this vein, every time you shuffle a deck of cards, it is almost a certainty that the order of the cards in that deck would not match any other deck in the history of time or ever will be shuffled in the future.

Orlando wasn’t his first choice though. He was actually eyeing land near Panama City beach. The controller of St. Joe Company, who owns vast swaths of land in that area, shut it down before it got started because he “doesn’t deal with carnival people”

Those uses that exclude it are misused.

I wasn't trying to mislead anyone, you misunderstood what the term means.

It's not a fun fact because of clever wordplay, it's a fun fact mostly because of the prevalence of Mercator projection maps which has resulted in the fact being counterintuitive for many people.

Again, commonly used. Pew research excludes Alaska in surveys of “continental us”. Usgs includes it for its stats.

So why not just say “United states” and exclude a qualifier? Nobody is claiming countries close to Guam. shite, if we want to that route, the largest national park in the European union is in South America.

Don’t be that guy.

The us technically shares a borders with Mexico, Canada, Russia, Cuba, and the Bahamas. Direct touching borders.

The German Chocolate cake has nothing to do with Germany. It was named after Samuel German, an American baker.

I was lied to. The way I heard it, cop was short for copper. Supposedly, they were referred to as that because their badges were made of copper.

A dollar bill is 6.14 inches long. A good quick way to measure when needed.
