Well you still are in a desert. Scottsdale is still more green than other areas of the valley.
Also, many of the buildings here are neutral in color due to city restrictions. They restrict those kinds of things. They want the colors to not clash with the desert landscape...but to blend in.

I enjoy visiting down there. There are benefits if you're single (female to male ratio is pretty good....and by female I mean females you'd be stoked to get with even if you were sober).
I probably wouldn't want to live there, as it worships at the twin alters of mansions and Range Rovers, but you'll have a good time for sure.

Yeah my dad's in the area and he's totally into that "look as rich as possible" scene, so that's what I see most. When I go out on my own, though, I tend to meet cool people.

Im an architectural photographer, but a cabinet manufacturer is flying me out to take photos of one of their installations. The goal is to try and grab some nice landscapes and architecture for the portfolio while I'm there. The job is only going to take about 2 hours......so the rest of the 2 days is free time, essentially.

Taliesin West is out there and students will build cool desert homes that flow with the environment.
If you want really cool night photos, climb Squaw Peak at night. Phoenix lights up like it is Christmas at night and the flat valley looks incredible at night.

I have more friends with divorced parents/ 2nd&3rd step parents from remarried parents than I want to count. Their parents would spend millions in attorney fees just to screw each other over.

Always wanted to do a night hike here. Love Squaw Peak, prefer it over Camelback whenever I want a challenging local hike. And yeah, even the views from the top during the day are awesome...can only imagine at night or say sunset.
OP....Sunsets here are beautiful so def try to find a good place to catch it.

Yeah I don't live in that culture. I just enjoy the benefits of Scottsdale without getting wrapped up in the Scottsdale "scene". But I know what you mean. My ex was the head event planner for the Scottsdale Culinary Festival. Had to go with him to several social events and saw that whole scene go down. I do like the accessibility to all the parks and restaurants and shopping here. Like feeling safe where I live at. Like that when I do have a child...they can go to public school here and get a good education.

We have a work thing in Scottsdale later this year. At the Princess, I think. The wife is probably gonna fly out and make it a mini vacation.

I like that it is shorter and not quite as crowded as Camelback. It is a bit more strenuous but definitely worth it.

Definitely worth it. This is a cruddy 2009 cell phone photo. One of the coolest things. If you want to just go for the view/not hike, squaw peek has a trail to small ledge if you go to the left early instead of main trail to summit. Maybe a 2-5 minute walk and you can see similar views of South Phoenix.

I absolutely love the restaurant scene and even as a guy can enjoy the shopping areas. I always visit Scottsdale Quarter when I am in town. The parks are awesome and a lot of fun like you mentioned too.
