Seems like a False River type set up, oxbow lake, lots of camps, not near any major towns, cities. Overall though somewhat underdeveloped and dirt cheap for land or a decent place on the lake. Almost unbelievably cheap.

What are your thoughts about a camp or retirement type place on the water? Fishing and/or boating pretty good?

Talk to me, OT!

I’ll have to assume you’ve never driven thru the area. You might want to do that before making any rash decisions.

Either extremely wealthy or extremely poor. No in-between.

It's a great lake with great people. You wouldn't fit in

I’m from that area originally. Was born there in fact. The lake is beautiful. It is also extremely impoverished for most of the people. It has no middle class essentially. It has the vast majority that is very poor, and a few that are pretty well off at the other end.

There is one side of the lake that people with more money live on. I’m sure prices are higher there though. If you are thinking for retirement, keep in mind there aren’t very many doctors around there. In case of an emergency, I think you’d have problems.

With all of that being said, it is beautiful on the lake. If you haven’t lived near extreme poverty, you have to decide if you are comfortable doing that. I’m not saying it’s bad, but I am saying it’s different if you haven’t before.

Possibly the poorest area in the entire US. It was #1 in the past.

I had to drive up to the area once to visit a jail and it was remarkable how little traffic I saw.

OP, that Delta area of NELA is either legacy industry owned by the local wealth or jails. There is little else other than fast food for amenities.

All shopping will basically be WalMart in Oak Grove.

It's crap. All of it. Unless you just absolutely love hunting and lake life and golf, there's legitimately nothing else to do out there.

I lived and worked there for about 5 years during my mid 20s. I was from a rural area in Ga already but this was another world.

I was fortunate enough to get in with a group of guys my age who were from there and I had plenty of disposable income considering the very low cost of living. So I really enjoyed my time there.

Like others said, very poor area. There's 2 maybe 3 restaurants, 1 grocery store and basically no entertainment. We used to drink and drive on the levee and that was about it. The Country Club was running well when I was there but the golf shut down after I moved. You're about a hour from anything, Greenville, Monroe, Vicksburg etc so if you don't like driving then it would suck.

Drove to Tallulah a few years ago and think i saw one car (the infamous Waterproof cop in his 1970s patrol car) between Jonesville and Newellton.

How many other beautiful lakes in other states are as undeveloped and surrounded by poverty? Is that an "only in Louisiana" thing?

Tons of poor, insanely poor people, a very few wealthy landowners, no jobs, everything is 50 years begins current times.

If you go for a weekend and never leave your property, might be ok

It's in the Delta region, which has historically been the poorest region of the United States since the 20th century.
