Doesn’t surprise me. If someone’s kids are actually capable enough and will be doing honors or AP then send them to Central. They will still be sharing a building with riff raff but in class peers will be perfectly fine. It’s just not rainbows and sunshine like some may say.
Unfortunately my wife and I aren't in a position to send our kids to private school. Your sentiment is what I have come to terms with. I took ap classes in high school and tested out of my freshman year of college. I have always been a believer that parent involvement and individual drive/ability can outpace any environment. I was impressed with the amount of AP classes available at Central High.

2020 average ACT at Central High School was 19.6 and they've been trending down for ~five years across the state. That simply cannot be a "good school" .
Zachary's was 21.6 just for reference. I have been using zachary as my benchmark for looking at schools in trying to make my decision.

That’s basically genius level compared to most EBRP schools

Hooper and Sullivan are supposed to be getting widened. That issue is out of our hands, unfortunately, being state roads and all. Central isn't that bad. There's more hood rat shite going on than there was 30 years ago, but that's everywhere. The good thing about Central is that there are no Dr Horton or DSLD developments. So that's one less thing to worry about, if that's on your radar. Jackson Park just got upgraded, so you can bring your little ones there to play.

The house is close by Jackson park. We went there for a 2 year old's Bday party months back and I was very impressed.

That big development across from WalMart seems like it’s destined to be ghetto

My biggest complaint, especially afternoons
The Hooper / Sullivan is a cluster from 3-6

If they wanted country living, they get country living. No quick way in and out. But it’s done now and Central will not be what it once was in 10 years or so. It’s unreal how it annexed itself and is willing turning itself into Baton Rouge.

I wonder why the NOLA metro has so many more "good" options than EBR metro. You'd think it would be about the same.

I'm in Central with kids in the elementary schools and it's been great for us. Every school district is gonna have it's issues. But we've been happy with it. The local politics are dumb as hell, but I just try to ignore it. We like living here. But it's also where my wife grew up and we're super close to family. Ideally, we'll stay here until the kids are out of the house. Then either move out of state or to a more rural area around here.

I think this is kind of our plan. Where we are looking is 15-20 minutes from both her parents and mine. I appreciate the input from someone in a similar situation.

Well , there was this brawl at the HS last year. I would say it is trending downwards at this point and would not be confident it would be an option for HS in 13 years.

Good question. Also I don’t recognize half the schools on that list

Been in central for about 10 years. I like it here. My kids are in 2nd grade and the schools have been great. I don't travel to N Central a ton so don't see the traffic. Most I deal with is if my kids have baseball at Lovett park and I have to go Hooper to get there at 5pm. Still not horrible.
I've been hearing that the middle school doesn't care as much as Bellingrath and Tanglewood so that concerns me.
