I told you that was where you were going to end up. (Lol)
Now too truly enjoy OS you need to get a 20 foot or better deep V or cat hull boat so you can go to horn island on weekends. 150 hp minimal, buy a used boat with good hull (mako, aquasport, regulator, contender etc) with decent working motor. And go ahead and get on list to get slip at the harbour if u r lucky u will get a slip in about 20 years

I embarrassed to say that read like a foreign language. I am a bright girl, where does one learn about boats. I mean the basics to how to work on them?
I am not the most mechanically inclined but i have poured vodka in carburetor to get home before curfew. I think I could learn enough to possibly get by with adequate instruction.

I wish I could give you some website or something but most of what I have learned has been the hard way through personal experience. Thehulltruth is a good website as is the outdoor TD site.
For some simple points:
Most of the money is in the engines, so start there.
2)Suzukis are the best motors, Yamahas have best reputation but some serious corrosion issues, Honda is apparently tryin to get out of outboard business or something. I have owned about 1/2 dozen outboards, Zukes are all I recommend, although the Johnson Seahorse was a great motor in its day.
3) Dirty little secret, a decent 2 stoke life expectancy is about 10 years in salt water, the twice as expensive 4 strokes is about the same as they use same gaskets etc. they can run for a million hours but unless you are a commercial fisherman or something.
4) Hulls. Always buy a used hull, the used hull new motor combo is the best. Always buy the extended warranty on a motor if you can. Just no damn bay liner ever. Most modern hulls are decent quality, the dirty little secret is that they are only so many hull model makers out there, like 6 or so. I had a nauticstar but it was actually originally a seacraft and probably something else in between if not several other models. As long as the fiberglass isn’t waterlogged or cracked up you are good.
These are options for Mississippi Gulf Coast:
Deep V monohull: best for going offshore other than deep water catboats which are actually all successors of the manta cat which was designed in biloxi bay by Rod Fields and company and sold to SeaCat which became Worldcat. Other than Glacier Bay which was bought out by Worldcat. Everglades is gold standard rn, but contenders, regulators, makos, etc are all great. 20-28 feet range. 200 up hp.
Bay boats and tunnel hulls: these are designed for inshore but are generally fine for going back and forth for horn island. 18-24 foot with 150 up hp engine. Tons of manufacturers, etc
Cat boats: harder to find now, also have two engines etc so generally more expensive. Maybe not move for first boat.

I need my kids to know the warmth that comes from having your family around. That trumps any politics I have.
You would never know any of this judging by your posting history here because you never miss a chance to shite on the majority of people who live in the south.

Ocean Springs is cool as frick. If you’re willing to live about 25 minutes from downtown, getting a place on your own private beach is cool as frick. Fires on the beach for New Years is nice

We are making an offer tomorrow on a home there and the kindness of the people in OS is equal to the kindness everyone here showed.
Congratulations!!
You'll like downtown Ocean Springs. I don't get over that way very often because I live too far west, but I drove through for Christmas shopping.
I don't know the name of the local youth soccer program, but it has to be good since OSHS is a powerhouse.

OS has a ton of good restaurants and bars now, the entire city focuses around the high school, and football is king but all the sports are popular and unless the band leader left recently the band is unreal maybe 300 people or something. (Bigger than most college bands. )
We have won state championships in most all sports but sadly not in football although we have finished runners up and always in playoffs.
The cheerleading are unreal, they have won multiple national championships and work like dogs. My senior year the state champion gymnast was on the team and they made a huge human pyramid with a hole in the middle and she ran bounced on the little trampoline made a bunch of flips through the hole in the pyramid and landed in perfect split. (You will never see stuff like that again) the finished national runner up that year but were first up at nationals in Orlando so everyone thought that screwed them in scoring.
Drugs can be an issue and are worst in the middle school due to mandatory school attendance until age 16.

Biloxi is by far nicer than Oceans Springs. Biloxi High School and Junior High (Brand New) are both state of the Art Facilities. They are truly something to witness in person. My daughter went to Elementary (North Bay), Junior High and High School in Biloxi. She is still so proud of where she went to school. They are the absolute best top rated schools on the entire coast by a long shot. If I had a choice to live in Ocean Springs or Biloxi. I would choose Biloxi every time.
I’m not originally from Biloxi so this opinion does not come from any school or city Rivalry

Hard to go wrong on the Coast. Pass Christian is a blue ribbon school and Long Beach is in the midst of a major renovation.

Biloxi school buildings are nice, the stadium is as well…but living in Biloxi does not seem ideal.

Long Beach’s band is kick arse. Their football team isn’t good, but the band was the best band of any team we played by FAR.

My son played with V and Mink growing up, those kids are really good.

People in Biloxi value education like gangsters in hood value human life. Sad but true. And my brother went to Mercy Cross for a few years before going to OS
