Wescon just pulled in a couple offices over from me.
I've been up here since early January. Very mild winter this year. A few inches of snow on the ground when I got here and maybe an inch or two since. Been hot the past couple days (mid 90s), but obviously not as humid and usually a good breeze going. Evenings are nice, but now it doesn't get dark until close to 10.

Speaking of humidity...if you have any sinus probs, it's a bitch to get used to the air up here.

Food sucks compared to down south, but there is a good steakhouse owned by TJ Moran's son (TJ Ribs, Ruth's, etc). Wear an LSU hat or shirt and they'll give you a free drink. He also owns a Mexican place, same deal. And they bring in crawfish on Thursdays, but it's pricey.

Violent crime is low, but keep your shite locked up. Like someone else said...meth is an issue. Lots of shite has been getting stolen in my neighborhood.

Traffic is nothing like down south. Weekends it gets a little worse because people from outskirts come to town to shop. Still, I think there was only once when I didn't get thru a light cycle and it was because of an accident.

Be careful on the trip up here. Wyoming is windy as shite.

I need to get your email man. I'm up in Montana at least once a year to go hiking. While I've made friends up there over the years, would love to have a La native to hang with while up there.

You gotta watch out on those reservations. Ask around to find out some of the "don't stop" areas.

40 below isn't mild to anyone, and that is not the average winter temps in Billings.

Billings record lows are 39 below one month. more than 40 below, 20 below, blah blah. average lows every day in the two coldest months are in the teens. You will see a lot of single digit mornings.
You need to buy duo-fold long underwear.
It does NOT snow much. (compared to say, southern New England, where the Long Island sound does not freeze over until late in winter if at all, so there is a lot of moisture to make snow from.
anyway, there is virtually no snow to speak of, compared to the Great Lakes or even Kentucky.
But you will want to get long underwear.
and a snow jacket that covers your arse when you walk.

You've obviously never mingled with Native Americans out West.

Appreciate the info. Like I said I know how it works. Very few jobs have less job security than a contractor at refinery/plant haha

I'm jealous. I've been wanting to move back since we left 15 years ago. Wife got homesick.

I should have stayed.

You'd think that, but be wrong. It's just a different kind of racism.

I took a trip through Montana last year. Drove from Great Falls to Yellowstone over a couple days. Spent the night in Bozeman. I wish we had scheduled another night just for the chance to check out the town. I remember eating dinner in both Great Falls and Bozeman thinking, "I could live here."

Long time lurker and OT addict. First time poster. I moved my family up here from Mandeville in 2014. Live in Red Lodge and work in Billings. Love it up here. Check out the west end, heights, or Lockwood for living if you want to be close. I drive an hour each way to work but love living on edge of mountains. Hunting is awesome out here, too, but hunting regs can get a little crazy.

Montana is sweet and you will have a great time, although agree billings isn't the best spot. One suggestion, import a girlfriend because it's also called mantana. Girls lacking, especially if coming from the south and SEC school setup it will be shocking.

Joan Rivers said if you ever have the choice of going to Billings Montana or going down in a plane crash.. Go down in that goddamn plane.
