I agree that a short barreled shotgun is excellent for home defense. Just choose your shells wisely for your particular situation.

I just never heard of police and DAs not having the discretion to say “nope, reason to arrest here.” I’ve never heard of a requirement that DAs present something to a grand jury. Usually it’s in their discretion to even do that.

Not that I could find in the CCP, but it's a matter of practice. In doing this for 25 years, I've never seen a homicide NOT go to the Grand Jury, no matter how clear-cut.
