I was like 100 percent sure this was going to be an Onion article. Wow.

ETA, and legally, doesn't this make him the victim as well as the perp?

So the media leaked the name of a minor victim of child porn technically. Shouldn't there be legal ramifications to that as well as long as we're living in No Sense world?

I can only hope that there is some hot and nasty bad arse karma that will be coming the judge and prosecutor's way.

Would anybody really shed a tear or so much as make a pity post if they got their asses kicked and fricked over sometime in the near or far future? Special place in hell for those assholes.

This isn't the first case of this happening. A female was arrested two years later (when in college) for pics she had of she and a ex boyfriend in high school nude in mirror on prom night. Very stupid laws out there but the idea was to discourage teens from taking the nudes of themselves under threat of charging them with kiddie porn production. PR Backfire.

Judges and prosecutors have their revenue budgets that they have to hit. If there is any way to make a defendant pay fines or fees of any kind, they will get their flow of cash.

How were they discovered, why in the hell is this kid's life now ruined, and how have we become a cash cow to keep the civil servants in the law and court business flush with cash. Too many arrests and quotas for budgets, jail occupancy, and overstaffed offices. That's how.

I can't believe this isn't an Onion article.

This case is so stupid that it makes my head hurt.

I thought surely that was an onion piece.

Me too. And it would be funny if it was. Why wouldn't the DA dismiss this.

From the article. It is crazy for them to prosecute him for having pictures of himself. Prosecuting him for having pictures of the 16 year old girl may just be their way of trying to send a message to teen sexters.

quote:

Copening was charged with four counts of making and possessing images of himself and one count of possessing a naked image of his 16-year-old girlfriend.

One, end your question with a question mark.

Two, read the fricking article before asking questions.

quote:

The pictures were discovered on Copening’s phone when authorities were investigating a wider problem of sexual images allegedly being shared at school without the permission of the subjects involved. Copening turned out not to be involved in that case.

Basically a couple cops or a DA decided it would be cool to look at naked teenagers and the easiest way to do that without going to jail would be to confiscate the private property of teenagers to bust up a criminal conspiracy of super attractive teenagers.

My favorite part of the article

While the pictures were technically illegal, actual sex would not be – the age of consent for sexual intercourse in North Carolina is 16.

And the US has one of the highest incarceration rates in the work. Big surprise.
