Damn man, at some point even a prog like you should start to feel a little embarrassment.
I'm not progressive, at all.

Again, incorrect. You all are the ones batching about the country, not me.

are inanimate objects and food labels really causing you such grief
They're causing me none. Again, you all are the ones calling for people to be labeled as terrorist and shite, not me.

It's so odd, they never tore down Auschwitz. I wonder why. And it's not even made up racism.

1) Can't read that cause WaPO link. May be due to browser settings.
2) WaPO link anyway
May as well be similar to me linking breitbart to someone very left leaning and expecting them to take it seriously.
Regardless, I'm aware of criticism levied at the statue. I'm aware of what some perceive is an issue with the statue. I'm stating that it's all horseshite political pandering. It's a fricking statue that has no direct racist implications unless you perform some degree of mental gymnastics.
Why else would the statue be suddenly targeted for removal after all? It's just piggybacking off of the political shitshow lately that translates to easy pandering points. It may not be directly bending the knee, but it sure as hell is looking for the mob's attention. Pretending otherwise is being disingenuous.

I dont disagree with this.

Its not exactly new, it's just now got enough steam to happen

This is true, but thats kind of how everything works.

Give it time, The "White" House is a symbol of oppression and racism, it will be changed too... Hell while we are at it, crackers offends me. I want it changed to saltine and non saltine squares. NOW!!!!

That's the point though, it hasn't been sudden. There has been criticism over it for years, and it prompted the museum to add a display giving the statue more context.
And sure, the museum board gauged the public's current mood and at least partially based their decision on that. I think they should have just moved it inside, but I'm also not going to lose my mind over their decision.

quote:I can't deny that based on previous criticisms, regardless of how silly I find said criticisms.
it hasn't been sudden.
quote:Just not needed, but this goes back to my previous point of the criticisms being levied at it are poor in quality.
it prompted the museum to add a display giving the statue more context.
quote:I think it has less to do with this specific statue, and far more to do with the overall point of slippery slope. This goes back to when confederate statues were targeted for removal, and the argument against it was slippery slope. The reply consisted mainly of, 'These are different. These represent the Confederacy!' and 'It belongs in a museum anyway.' We were assured it will go no further. Absolutely not a step further. Now I'm sitting back watching it burn as a Washington statue is toppled, a fricking memorial to Black soldiers during the Civil War was defaced, a Lincoln statue has now been targeted for removal, and just add this one with Teddy on top.
I'm also not going to lose my mind over their decision.
Man, that slippery slope argument sure was retarded, am I right?
