Tarsha back in court - wants a new judge

East Baton Rouge Council on Aging Executive Director Tasha Clark-Amar asked Monday that a new judge be assigned to oversee her defamation case against a family that accused her of wrongdoing.

State Judge Don Johnson took over the defamation case in June of last year after it was originally assigned to Clark-Amar's mother, State Judge Janice Clark. Clark recused herself more than a month after the case was assigned to her, and every judge in the 19th Judicial District courthouse followed suit except for Johnson.

But Clark-Amar's attorney, Charlotte McDaniel McGehee, filed a motion Monday morning that now asks for an ad hoc judge to preside. McGeehee cited a past Louisiana Supreme Court case, in which all judges in a courthouse were required to recuse themselves when another judge's child was involved in a case.

Plummer's grandson, Dan Freeman, said Monday that waiting so long before asking Johnson to recuse himself seemed like a stall tactic. He said he hopes Johnson throws out the defamation lawsuit.
